The University of Virginia has an exciting Director opportunity on our HR People Data and Analytics (PD&A) team. You will provide vision and overall leadership to the business intelligence, data analytics and Human Resources programs to ensure alignment with the Department’s needs and objectives. Our HR PD&A team applies cutting-edge technology and techniques to bring solutions to our clients using tools including Workday and Qlik. You will help oversee and lead activities of PD&A programs and direct the alignment, adoption, and integration of these disciplines in support of the mission, vision, and strategies of our organization including both the University and UVA Health. This position will specifically support programs and projects within the Department of Human Resources.

The Director communicates strategy and UVA HR analytics technology roadmaps to staff and executive teams; leverages recognized technical and business expertise to influence, guide, and shape business strategy and decision-making at the highest organizational levels.

Job Description

The Director of PD&A is responsible for providing actionable information and insights about UVA’s people to drive a rewarding employee experience, allow for data-driven decision making, and, ultimately, overall organizational success. The Director will continue to develop the forward-looking strategic direction for the PD&A with a focus on enablement and automation, move the HR PD&A team and UVA up the data and analytics maturity curve, and lead the team responsible and accountable for delivering needed people data, insights, and products. This leader will work in a cross-functional environment to scale data-informed solutions across UVA HR, the University, and UVA Health. The ideal candidate is a proven leader both tactically and strategically who can play a vital, hands-on role in developing the HR PD&A team, data management and governance practices, tools, and technology evolution, and leveraging evolving good practices. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, testing and execution of reporting and people analytics & data solutions for use by University, UVA Health, and HR leaders.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert and advisor to University, UVA Health and HR leaders with the goal to develop a mindset for data-driven decision-making. 
  • Provide domain-specific expertise and consultation to UVA HR functional leaders as they design and implement key HR programs. 
  • Oversee HR’s data governance practices in alignment with University-wide policies and practices.
  • Design, develop and implement a workforce planning process, in partnership with other HR teams as appropriate, to support ongoing workforce planning. 
  • Lead the People Data and Analytics team to support HR reporting and data needs, develop dashboards, scorecards and other data visualizations that present data in a meaningful and actionable way, interpret data and identify trends, develop and maintain appropriate benchmarks. 
  • Perform data quality reviews to identify problems and errors and partner with HR teams to design solutions. 
  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of standard reporting visualizations across primary stakeholder groups. The visualizations should include metrics in support of business monitoring as well as HR monitoring. 
  • Partner with business leaders and HR functional groups to develop a standard set of relevant key performance indicators. 
  • Expand UVA HR’s predictive analytic capabilities and adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI). 
  • Develop and execute a roadmap to ensure UVA HR and University and UVA Health leaders become data-savvy and likewise, be a role model to lead the data team to be organizationally savvy (about HR and the various University and UVA Health lines of business). 
  • Manage people analytics governance, ensuring all projects are prioritized by business value and aligned with other analytics projects in the organization. 
  • Manage, coach and develop the PD&A team to expand their analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. 

Skills 

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategy in large, complex organizations. 
  • Deep technical hands-on expertise in data analytics, data visualization, business intelligence, and reporting. 
  • Prior experience in HR data modelling to support creation of advanced analytics, BI toolsets, and automated reporting. 
  • Ability to analyze large HR data sets and transform them into business analytics to inform human capital decision making. 
  • Strong analytical acumen, intellectual curiosity, creativity, a proven work ethic, and solid communication skills. 
  • Excellent consultative skills, understanding business needs and translating those needs to technical requirements. Clear communication to business and technical leaders. 
  • Skilled in and experienced with data lifecycle management, visualizations, data interpretation & storytelling, and developing dynamic dashboards. 
  • Exceptional problem solver with the ability to transition between detailed data and high-level insights. 
  • Ability to dive deep into details, roll up sleeves while leading, motivating and inspiring a high-performing team. 

Minimum Requirements

Education: Bachelor's Degree. 

Experience: 8 years’ relevant experience. Significant, equivalent combination of experience and qualifications may substitute for degree requirement.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience hiring, managing, mentoring, and developing talent.
  • Experience with HR data, HRMS/HRIS systems, specifically Workday, Workday reporting and People Analytics.
  • Experience with Qlik.
  • Strong technical expertise in developing in and utilizing Hyperion/EPM, SQL, Tableau, and OBIEE or similar products.
  • Experience in HR analytics in Higher Ed and/or Healthcare.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $150,000.00 - 180,000.00 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
