Overview

The Financial Analyst is an individual who possesses excellent financial and analytical skills as well as the ability to work effectively with people at all levels of the organization. The Financial Analyst is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and summarizing the financial implications of research operations. The Financial Analyst will be directly involved in the development and monitoring of annual capital and operating budgets including grants. The Financial Analyst will also be involved in the maintenance of the financial decision support system (TBD).

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Work extensively with department managers to develop accurate and timely financial information used in analyzing current operations, problem resolution, and decision making.
  • Develop and prepare annual capital and operating budgets for designated cost centers. Assist department managers and administrators throughout the budget process by serving as their primary financial contact. Prepare reports and analyses used during budget presentations to leadership.
  • Gather, summarize, and report on financial variances (by grant, cost center, account, job code, and/or employee). 
  • Develop/maintain reporting to monitor performance of designated cost centers. 
  • Assist department managers in the planning and business development process by preparing multi-year projections/financials, as needed.
  • Develop expertise of the financial content and structure of the financial decision support system. Continually review system for refinements. 
  • Develop knowledge of the content and structure of the transactional data (general ledger, payroll, grant system, etc.) that is used within the financial reporting, ERP, and grant software systems. 
  • Establish and maintain high standards of service to internal customers.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive data.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance.
  • Two to three years of progressively responsible experience in financial management or cost accounting activities.
  • Superior data mining, reporting, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Expertise in clinical financial analysis and costing accounting methodologies preferred.
  • Highly motivated, flexible, and interested in working in a dynamic organization.
  • Strong professional demeanor with the inherent quality to rapidly establish credibility and rapport with clinicians, managers and external groups.
  • Must demonstrate ability to effectively manage confidential matters and exhibit diplomacy and tact in presentation of sensitive materials.

Minimum Physical Requirements:

  • Note frequency as Constantly (67-100%), Frequently (34-66%) and Occasionally (0-33%) for each requirement. Also note any lifting requirements with pound limit. Sitting - Constantly Talking on phone/in person - Frequently Typing on a keyboard - Constantly Standing/walking - Occasionally
