Job Description

Information Technology department is seeking motivated, self-directed individuals to intern in the Glastonbury, CT, Branchville, NJ and Charlotte, NC offices. Positions are available in Application Delivery, Infrastructure, and Security. As a summer intern, you will work directly with experienced professionals to gain hands-on, relevant experience. Please note, this is a hybrid position, therefore, applicants must be within commuting distance of one of our locations.

IT Application Delivery

The IT Application Delivery department delivers quality, cost-effective and flexible application solutions that meet business needs. This includes: Application architecture, development, enhancements, operations, production support and quality assurance. As well as ensuring adherence to IT management and technical standards, patterns and best practices.

This position requires some basic knowledge of general programming activities in one or more current market languages. You’ll also need to have an interest in learning and analyzing business process as well as the ability to break down work items into smaller units for planning and execution purposes. Good communication and collaboration skills are mandatory. It is expected this position will provide support for production applications and/or development on enhancements.

IT - INFRASTRUCTURE

IT Infrastructure provides cost-effective support to the current operational needs of the business and is readily adaptable to meet future needs. Areas of business includes: Tools & Monitoring services, End-user compute engineering services (EUC), Database engineering services, Storage engineering services, Service delivery management (SDM), and Mainframe engineering services.

Tasks include:

  • Monitor the OA monitoring agent
  • Validate / update changes for UCMDB non-discoverable data
  • Other tools and monitoring tasks that arise
  • Review public folders
  • Contact owners and lock down folders to avoid growth
  • Run the process again in an attempt to further cut down growth of public folders
  • Review accounts
  • Review accounts for “non-people”
  • Work with Operations and account owners to change the license to E2, or switch over to shared/room mailbox

IT SECURITY

This area of IT manages Selective’s Information Security/Cybersecurity tools and systems. This position requires active management and monitoring of these tools, ongoing assessment of compliance with policies and standards, plus a wide variety of tasks related to Cybersecurity and data protection.

  • Under the direction of security staff, protect enterprise information systems and data from intentional or accidental destruction, disruption, or modification while minimizing the impact upon those who need legitimate access to the data.
  • Assists in the identification and escalation of security risks, anomalies, or threats to senior members of the team or the Manager, IT Security.
  • Provide a timely and rapid response to user community’s request for assistance and contribute to the resolution of routine problems.
  • Assists IT Security Analyst on supporting various security tools and technologies as well as security project activities.

Job Qualifications

  • Must be a current college student to qualify.
  • We’re looking for candidates that possess ownership, self-motivation and management execution.
  • College credit can be earned depending on your institution’s requirements.

Interns are paid hourly and compensation starts at $19.00 per hour.
