Editorial Assistant, Berkley (Contemporary/Historical Fiction, Book Club) [Hybrid]

Berkley, an imprint at Penguin Random House, seeks an Editorial Assistant to join its team. The assistant's role would be to provide administrative and editorial support for an Editorial Director on an impressive list of commercial fiction, especially book club fiction. This position offers the opportunity for growth and to learn about the overall editorial process and the inner workings of a publishing office.

An industry leader in commercial and genre fiction, Berkley has a rich tradition of discovering new talent, defining emerging trends, and building authors and series into global franchises. Many bestselling authors have grown into popular brand names with Berkley's dedicated focus and guidance. Berkley is proud to publish Emily Henry, Carley Fortune, Dolen Perkins-Valdez, Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher-Murray, Simone St. James, Ashley Poston, Stephanie Dray, and Anissa Gray, among others.

At Berkley, the Editorial Assistant acts as a liaison between authors, agents, and the many different departments within the publishing group. Daily responsibilities include all-around project support for the editors, calendar and meeting management, proposal/manuscript reading and submission management, drafting flap and catalogue copy, and brainstorming creative publishing approaches and solutions to help authors/books through the publication process.

Our ideal candidate is highly motivated, enthusiastic about publishing, and enjoys reading broadly and often. We are looking for a detail-oriented, meticulous self-starter who loves fiction of all types and is invested in the process of bringing them to a wide readership, has strong writing and analytical skills, communicates clearly, is comfortable asking for help when needed, and wants to be an active participant on a collaborative team. If you can handle the details of immediately urgent tasks but also remember to step back, consider the big picture, and adjust your strategy when needed, you'll assume greater editorial responsibilities over time.

This hybrid position has occasional in-office responsibilities, including but not limited to meetings with agents, escorting authors, and ad hoc administrative duties such as mailings. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA)

Please apply using our ATS system by March 31, 2024, and include your Cover Letter and Resume for consideration.
