What to Expect

The New Product Introduction Technical PROJECT Manager is responsible for analyzing the effect of production changes through the use of validation trials within manufacturing operations. The Technical PROJECT Manager is responsible for supporting the development of new processes and carrying out each trial exactly to the established product specification. This includes managing the qualification and validation of product and parts for a program from early prototype builds to launch of the production line and volume ramp of a new product.

The primary role of the Technical PROJECT Manager will be to test and validate systems and parts involved in product development and manufacturing in order to ensure products are of the highest quality. To support this, the Technical PROJECT Manager will also establish validation standards, develop testing protocols, prepare equipment, document test results, and maintain records. Additionally, the Technical PROJECT Manager will identify, report, and adjust equipment or processes that require improvement.

The Technical PROJECT Manager will collaborate with design, manufacturing engineering, quality, configuration management, production, safety, and service departments.

This role supports the Fremont Powertrain Programs in Fremont, CA.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist in reviewing engineering design changes in Tesla PLM (product lifecycle management) system
  • Lead and conduct manufacturing line trials for new products or processes
  • Provide feedback to technical program manager and cross functional team members on issues, yield impact, or manufacturability associated with trial run.
  • Conduct Trial Preparation: Ensure part availability, line readiness, and pre-requisite data obtained and consolidated
  • Complete Trial Report: Document observations, analysis, and results, Make recommendations as needed and drive solutions. Record all issues found during trials and help drive to closure
  • Manage Trial Recovery: Ensure manufacturing lines are validated and/or restored to prior condition post-trial(s). Evaluate the success of each trial (yield, downtime, cost, safety, etc.)
  • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) on trials to ensure proper validation procedures are followed
  • Track all trial details in PCA tracking system for approvals
  • Participate in weekly change control meetings with cross-functional project team and provide updates and lead discussions on trials and part qualifications.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering
  • 2-3 years working in a manufacturing environment
  • Production Operations Knowledge - Has a general understanding of how complex production lines operate including key items such as industrial workings between facilities/departments, line balance, OEE, error proofing, etc
  • Understanding of how the manufacturing validation process runs in relation to new products (methodology, validation plans, associated KPIs)
  • Process engineering skills desired (process development/improvement, data analysis, constraint analysis, flow optimization, etc.)
  • Capable of identifying critical process parameters and applying statistics to process measurement and control
  • Fundamental understanding of manufacturability, process design, process validation, and assembly methods
  • Interpersonal skills dealing with all levels of an organization, especially skilled at working with direct labor force to understand challenges, and work on developing optimal solutions using structured methods
  • Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings or CAD models
  • Skillful with electrical and computer-based tools, including precision measuring equipment,
  • electrical test equipment, and computer databases
  • Experience with semi-automated manufacturing equipment a plus
  • Must be reliable, innovative, committed, and quality focused
  • Understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, and policiesrelated to specialized projects
  • Excellent written and verbal skills; Ability to communicate across cultures and geographicregions
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate activities
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment, occasionally requiring extended hours
  • Can provide leadership and work closely with cross-functional departments
  • Able to lift 30-50 pounds

Expected Compensation

$88,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
