Major Duties and Responsibilities:

PRIMARY TECHNOLOGY: .NET C# 

SECONDARY TECHNOLOGY: SQL - Relational Databases

Day-to-day, you’ll get to use your .NET/MVC development skills to make a difference for Ohioans as we convert a legacy (COBOL/IMS) application to a modern distributed architecture based on .NET and SQL.

The first step in this journey is to create an interim solution where the legacy code is emulated in a .NET wrapper. If you’re not familiar with the legacy technology, don’t worry, you’ll be part of a friendly, supportive team that can help! You will also be developing and using mentorship skills to help build a team of .NET professionals.

That’s only the beginning! You’ll put your .NET expertise to use as we create a secure, robust, high-performing, microservice-based cloud-ready distributed system to replace the legacy system. Whether you’re interested in developing MVC-based user interfaces, business logic, microservices, or RESTful APIs, there will be challenging and exciting opportunities to grow as a developer.

Assists higher-level IT staff with estimating workload requirements.

Qualifications

Option 1:

  • Completion of undergraduate core program in computer science or information systems;

AND 

  • 36 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: assuring requirements are defined and approved, performing code reviews and ensuring application development standards are met
  • Including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting.

Option 2:

  • Completion of associate core program in computer science or information systems;

AND 

  • 42 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: assuring requirements are defined and approved, performing code reviews and ensuring application development standards are met
  • Including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting.

Option 3

  • 60 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: assuring requirements are defined and approved, performing code reviews and ensuring application development standards are met
  • Including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting.

Or the equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.

Major Worker Characteristics:

Knowledge of:

  • Computer and electronics, oral and written communication tools and techniques, customer support and personal service, state and agency policy, procedures and applicable laws*, vision, mission and goals of agency*, software development principles and methods for design, development, testing and implementation of new or modified software, commonly used query language, mathematic principles relative to assigned area in IT, IT principles, methods and practices in assigned specialty area, standard software validation tools, software distribution tools and mechanisms, technical writing and documentation practices, systems performance management, requirements analysis principles and methods, back-up and recovery procedures, interrelationships of multiple IT specialties.

Skill for:

  • Reading comprehension, speaking, service orientation, troubleshooting, critical thinking, complex problem solving, lead work, programming software analysis and evaluation, using data recovery tools and techniques, judgment and decision making, assuring quality, and identifying and specifying business requirements.

Ability to:

  • Stay abreast of current technologies in area of IT assigned, deal with problems involving several variables in familiar context, define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, and prepare meaningful, accurate and concise reports.

Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be set at step 1 of the pay range (currently $34.68 per hour). If this position is filled internally, the wage rate will be determined in accordance with such.

Subject to On-Call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Required to carry a pager/cellular phone as assigned.

Required to work overtime as assigned.
