Jacobs is seeking a junior to mid-level Biologist to support public and private sector infrastructure and renewable energy projects based in our Portland, OR office, supporting projects in western OR and WA, with opportunity to support projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. Together, our team helps deliver critical and transformative infrastructure projects in the region, including fish passage, wetland and stream mitigation, sustainability initiatives and more.

As a developing biologist/ecologist you will join our multidisciplinary team, working with biologists and other environmental specialists to support complex projects across the PNW including the transportation, water, renewable energy and ecological restoration sectors. Working closely with our senior biologists, you will assist with field surveys, data collection, environmental permitting, NEPA analysis, and more. Our team includes experts in the fields of wetlands, fisheries, GIS and spatial analysis and other subject matter experts in the field. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop into a role as a biologist, gaining experience and mentorship from our interdisciplinary team. Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Partner with other biologists in our team to conduct field surveys and assessments, including wetland delineations, stream surveys, botanical inventories, avian and wildlife surveys, and more.
  • Work with our senior biologists and members of our multidisciplinary team of engineers, including environmental planners, cultural resources experts, geomorphologists, stream restoration engineers, GIS and spatial analysists to analyze potential impacts and develop biological resources technical reports, assessments, focused studies, and state and federal regulatory permitting applications.
  • Contribute to natural resource documentation and analysis, including biological evaluations/assessments, monitoring reports, mitigation plans and associated documents to address project impacts.
  • Assist with the preparation of environmental documentation for compliance with state and federal regulatory complaince, including the Clean Water Act (Wetlands/404 permitting), the Federal Endangered Species Act (ESA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and more.
  • Supporting proposal preparation, client coordination, and business development activities.
  • Preparing scopes of work and estimating level of effort for task completion.

Here's What You'll Need:

  • BS or MS in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science or related scientific discipline or technical field.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in the environmental field, including biological surveys, wetland delineation, environmental consulting or scientific technician positions.
  • Ability to participate in aquatic resource surveys, knowledge of PNW vegetation, soils, wetland community types, and stream characteristics.
  • Familiarity with wetland delineation protocols, stream surveys and/or botanical surveys is desired.
  • Some with OR and/or WA State and federal permitting programs such as the Clean Water Act Section 401/402/404, Federal Endangered Species Act, NEPA/SEPA, Critical Areas, and Shoreline permitting is a plus.
  • Experience utilizing handheld GPS equipment and software is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment with staff of varying levels of experience and subject matter expertise.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in adverse conditions and available for occasional local and overnight travel in OR and WA.
