Position Overview:

Charleys is seeking a highly creative and talented Junior Copywriter and PR Specialist to join our Marketing team to help elevate our brand awareness, shape our voice, and drive innovation across a number of channels and activities. This individual should possess demonstrated experience concepting and writing for ecommerce brands across 360 campaigns, ads, social content, videos, internal communications, and PR activations. The Junior Copywriter and PR Specialist needs to be detail-oriented with an ability to work well both collaboratively and independently to manage multiple complex, cross-functional projects while continually driving best-in-class practices across all customer-facing content. This position reports to the Director of Marketing Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Master our brand voice and tone to create content that drive awareness, interest, engagement, and sales.
  • Leverage market research and customer personas to finetune messaging and deliver targeted, meaningful, engaging copy.
  • Apply a 360 approach to all projects ensuring that messaging follows the customer journey and is consistent across all customer touchpoints.
  • Partner with appropriate key stakeholders to obtain all relevant information to generate benefit-driven copy for a variety of platforms, including print, digital, social media, pr, and videos (scripts).
  • Create impactful communications that attract new customers, keep brand top of mind, and strengthen overall reputation (Guest Services).
  • Own PR strategy, manage PR agency, oversee media monitoring, draft press releases, prepare talking points, and manage all internal interview prep as appropriate.
  • Manage brand’s crisis management strategy and response if/when applicable, working in direct coordination with Legal team.
  • Own the SEO strategy and stay current on SEO best practices to draft content for the website that elevates online rankings. 
  • Draft copy for marketing collateral, and proofread store communications, social media content, and program materials.
  • Participate in project/creative kickoffs and share recommendations and ideas.
  • Become the expert in creating content that resonates across all of our different audiences (internal, new customers, existing customers, etc.).
  • Support the drafting and editing of planned (and unplanned) internal communications for distribution to a wide range of audiences.
  • Ensure that all materials published are well-written, organized, and free from grammatical errors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communication, or English, or related field.
  • 3-5 years' professional experience writing feature stories (PR), advertising campaigns, digital content, web-based projects, videos, and/or internal/corporate communications.
  • Solid grammar, editing and proofreading skills; deep knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style and AP style.
  • A customer-first mentality with an ability to turn product information into benefit-oriented copy (USPs).
  • A natural flair for the unique, the buzz-worthy, and the culturally relevant.
  • Ability to utilize data to identify key insights that drive the development of copy through the lens of specific target audiences.
  • Creative writing and strategic thinking abilities with a solid understanding of how to effectively write targeted communications across all stages of the customer journey and marketing funnel.
  • Experience with the digital ecosystem and digital marketing best-practices, including SEO, SEM, direct/CRM marketing, SMS, social media, etc.
  • Proactive, highly organized, and detail oriented with superb project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple fast-paced project and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Comfortable working in an environment with a significant amount of ambiguity and rapid changes and able to adapt to new approaches and ways of thinking.
  • Expert communicator and collaborator – known as an “integrator of ideas.”
  • “Solution-oriented” always fostering a “can do” attitude.
  • Experienced working at both the strategic (macro) and tactical level (micro).
  • Creative, thinks outside-the-box and continually looks for ways to elevate ideas/output.
  • Exceptional at generating messaging that addresses audience needs and gets them to pause, read and act.
  • Analytical, outcome and data driven (intentional and focused on activities that drive ROI).
  • Excellent written and verbal skills. Demonstrates a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Expert-level Microsoft Office and Project Management Tools (Asana, Monday, etc.) experience.
  • You set a high bar in everything you do – quality, creativity, execution, productivity (efficiency) and of course balance.
