The Position

We are currently seeking a highly skilled postdoctoral scientist with a background in biophysics or chemical physics.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent data analysis skills and demonstrated experimental experience in at least one of the following areas: spectroscopy, molecular physics, surface science, or fluid dynamics.

Your position and department:

The Discovery Sciences department is an integral part of the Research and Early Development Chapter Area within Roche Diagnostics Solutions.

Our primary focus is on researching cutting-edge technologies and exploring potential solutions to address medical needs in various areas.

  • The international, global Discovery Sciences team is exploring novel grounds for Diagnostics beyond the established foci of the individual customer areas.
  • Projects are performed in close collaboration with colleagues across all business units and expertise, such as protein chemistry, test development, instrumentation, laboratory analytics, in-silico biomarker discovery, etc.
  • Awareness of up-to-date literature publications, patents and conference presentations is leveraged by the hands-on planning, performing and interpreting of experiments, and modeling biophysical systems in an independent manner.
  • One of your most important tasks is to further increase insights and know-how and, thus, to expend your personal expertise.
  • You will regularly coordinate your approach with internal project teams and experts from different areas and from academia.
  • Finally, you will be part of a highly motivated team and use state of the art methods, equipment and facilities.

  • You hold a PhD in physics or biophysics with highly interdisciplinary competencies.
  • You possess a profound knowledge in data science, advanced analytics, statistics and modeling.
  • You are experienced in experimental research on novel methods and applications for medical diagnostics with an emphasis on the physics, including technologies such as microfluidics, spectroscopy, microscopy, or crystallography.
  • Your interdisciplinary interest includes biology, chemistry, mathematics, and medicine.
  • You have experience in analyzing complex datasets and derive meaningful insights from them
  • Your qualification should be clearly demonstrated by at least one first author paper published or accepted in a high-quality journal.
  • Very good communication and interpersonal skills are your strengths. In addition, you are sensitive to intercultural and interdisciplinary matters.
  • You are a proactive individual with passion and commitment to innovate healthcare.
  • Working in a team comes natural to you.
  • You already demonstrated personal flexibility and the capability to work independently.
  • Highly advanced planning and organization skills complete your profile.
  • Excellent English skills are required, additional German language skills are preferred but not mandatory.

This position will be filled with effect early summer 2024 and is limited to 2 years.
