Postdoctoral Associate:

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)

Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in hand by the start of the appointment. Experience with molecular biology and/or rodent behavioral neuroscience.

Preferred Qualifications:.

Experience with in vivo physiology and chemo/optogenetic manipulations. Experience with bioinformatic data analyses. Stellar verbal and written communication skills.

Brief Description of Duties:

A Postdoctoral Associate position is available immediately (start date is flexible) in the laboratory of Dr. Prerana Shrestha within the Department of Neurobiology & Behavior at Stony Brook University. Research in the Shrestha laboratory focuses on understanding the translational control of memory processes using advanced molecular and behavioral techniques. To achieve this goal, we are seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to join us as a Postdoctoral Associate where you will work on understanding spatiotemporally resolved protein synthesis regulation underlying the consolidation of emotional memories.

The Postdoctoral Associate will work directly as a key member of the research team while receiving mentorship from Dr. Shrestha, the Shrestha lab as well as resources provided by the Department of Neurobiology & Behavior. The Postdoctoral Associate will use molecular biology, mouse behavior, stereotactic surgery, viral and transgenic technologies, gene expression analyses, in vivo chemo genetic and optical neurotechnology, and confocal microscopy. To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have strong verbal and written communication, organizational and analytical skills and an ability to attain a high degree of independence in a new and dynamic research environment.

The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University, and will be responsible for the following: 

  • Collect and analyze data, including literature search and utilizing specialized skills in the related field to analyze collected data.
  • Participate/ assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. Opportunities to assist in grant writing.
  • Provide training and supervision of students and junior colleagues in the laboratory.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance, mouse care and ordering of supplies as needed.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned, which may include attending Scientific conferences and meetings.

Senior Postdoctoral Associate:

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
