The mission of this team is to help create new and innovative solutions that utilize artificial intelligence and advanced analytics of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The IT innovation team focuses on research, technology innovation, proof-of-concept activities, technical marketing and business development for novel AI solutions, leveraging Hitachi’s technologies, reinforcing Hitachi’s messaging around big data, and establishing Hitachi as a leader in Industrial AI.

Role Overview

We are seeking a talented and motivated Data Pipeline Engineer Intern to join our team and contribute to the development of our AI data pipeline ecosystem. As a Data Pipeline Engineer Intern, you will play a crucial role in building and enhancing our data pipeline catalog, as well as developing connectors to integrate various data sources and systems from Hitachi Enterprise Group Companies.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable, efficient, and reliable data pipelines to support our AI platform and applications.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive data pipeline catalog, including metadata management, lineage tracking, and data quality monitoring.
  • Build robust connectors to integrate diverse data sources, such as databases, data warehouses, cloud storage, and real-time data streams, into our AI data pipeline ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, engineers, and product managers, to understand data requirements and design optimal data pipeline solutions.
  • Automate and streamline data pipeline deployment, monitoring, and maintenance processes using tools and frameworks like Apache Airflow.
  • Implement data quality checks, data validation, and error handling mechanisms to ensure the integrity and reliability of data flowing through the pipelines.
  • Contribute to the development of data pipeline documentation, user guides, and training materials to support the adoption and usage of the AI data pipeline ecosystem.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in data engineering, data pipelines, and AI data management.

Qualifications

  • Candidate in progress for their Masters in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.(PhD preferred)
  • Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Pandas).
  • Familiarity with data pipeline tools and technologies, such as Apache Airflow, Prefect, Dagster, or similar workflow orchestration platforms.
  • Experience in building and maintaining data connectors and integrations with various data sources (e.g., databases, data warehouses, cloud storage, APIs).
  • Understanding of data modeling, data quality, and data governance principles.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and their data services.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team.
  • Passion for data engineering, data pipelines, and their role in supporting AI and machine learning applications.

For California only (as required by California’s Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act (SB 1162): The expected hourly rate for this position in our California office is $25 - 28 per hour. Pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area. Employees are eligible to participate in Hitachi America’s variable pay program, subject to the program’s conditions and restrictions.
