Summary Statement

A variety of seasonal park positions are available for the Office of Volunteer and Community Involvement team for Delaware State Parks:

Regional Seasonal Volunteer Manager: $18.00/hour - Principal responsibilities of this position will include direct leadership and administration of volunteer activity within the assigned parks regionally.

Volunteer Manager: - $14.75/hour - Under the supervision of the Regional Manager of Volunteers, this position provides supervision for scheduled volunteer activities. 

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Provides volunteer management and coordination duties under the direction of the Office of Volunteer and Community Involvement.
  • Recruits, interviews and selects volunteers. 
  • Supervises volunteers and volunteer service projects.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Assesses the need for volunteers and volunteer projects through consultation with park personnel.
  • Assigns and places volunteers.
  • Conducts volunteer orientation and training.
  • Coordinates volunteer recognition.
  • Maintains and reports on hours of service and other records as required.
  • Assists in Statewide volunteer events as requested.
  • Assists and coordinates with Friends organizations in each park.
  • Performs other related work as required

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas: 

Regional Volunteer Manager

  1. One year experience in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets or databases.
  2. One year experience in supervising groups, staff or volunteers.
  3. Knowledge of natural, cultural, historical resources or parks and recreation.
  4. Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation.
  5. Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving). 

Volunteer Manager

  1. Six months experience in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets or databases.
  2. Six months experience in supervising groups, staff or volunteers.
  3. Knowledge of natural, cultural, historical resources or parks and recreation.
  4. Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation.
  5. Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

This position will have Statewide responsibilities which requires travel throughout the State. The State of Delaware provides transportation services to State agencies.

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.
