The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), School of Pharmacy is currently seeking a creative, motivated, and disciplined candidate to fill the Qualitative Research Data Analyst or Senior Qualitative Research Data Analyst position within the PATIENTS Program under the department of Pharmacy Practice, Sciences, and Health Outcomes Research (P-SHOR). This position will be filled based on the candidate's education and experience. The PATIENTS Program is an interdisciplinary research team of community partners and researchers that work to change the way we think about research by creating a path for health equity in West Baltimore. Both positions are eligible for a hybrid teleworking schedule.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting the overall strategic direction research and training initiatives of the PATIENTS program, through oversight of qualitative, patient-centered outcomes and health equity research. Oversee major research initiatives that include the development related to ethical and human subjects protections (HSP) issues; provide guidance on the study design to be more inclusive of patient and stakeholder engagement, qualitative and mixed-methods research activities; support patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) and community-engaged research (CEnR) studies on the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) campus in collaboration with the UMB Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR); implementation science; PCOR-related initiatives for reducing health disparities; and dissemination of findings to patients and other stakeholders and the communities we serve.

PRIMARY DUTIES – Qualitative Research Data Analyst:

  • Responsible for collecting and analyzing data for qualitative studies. This position will apply qualitative methodologies to assess, interpret, and disseminate research findings.
  • Utilize the most effective methods of data collection and coding.
  • Conduct literature reviews and develop written summaries of existing scholarships. Support study activities, including study design, IRB and human subject approvals, recruitment, interfacing with research participants, maintaining participant databases.
  • Check validity and accuracy of data ensuring compliance with quality control requirements.
  • Compile and analyze data for research programs. Coordinate and maintains data reports and database files on progress of programs, studies, and/or projects. Receives, inventories, enters, and organizes collected data.
  • Prepare and present reports for presentation or submittal to sponsoring agent, Principal Investigators, and staff.
  • Perform searches to generate standard and customized reports using qualitative applications such as NVIVO.
  • Summarize results of searches. Assist in the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and proposals by providing and presenting qualitative data as tables, charts, or graphs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

PRIMARY DUTIES – Senior Qualitative Research Data Analyst:

  • Perform all Qualitative Research Data Analyst duties.
  • Responsible for conducting advanced analysis and support for research programs in order to promote a culture of assessment and evidence-based decision making. The Senior Research Analyst will compile and interpret research data; establish and maintain databases, develop quality assurance; and provide final interpretations to others.
  • Independently conduct research assignments that include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements and difficult coordination requirements.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in the field and complete the highly complex work critical to the department. Assignments and projects are broad in nature requiring originality and ingenuity.
  • Design and conduct qualitative research projects, analyze findings, develop conclusions, develop and write reports, prepare presentations of relevant findings and conclusions, and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Develop and perform effective methods of data collection and assessment. May receive, inventory, enter, and organize collected data. Develop methods and tools to ensure validity and accuracy of data and compliance with quality control requirements.
  • Act in a lead role in the summarization and preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and proposals by providing and presenting qualitative data in the forms of tables, charts, or graphs. Review work of support staff and determines how analysis will be presented. Communicate and provide updates regarding the most complex data collection, analysis, and reporting processes.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentoring to less experienced personnel in qualitative analysis.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – Qualitative Research Data Analyst:

EDUCATION: Bachelors in Health Sciences, Public Policy, Social Science, Information Management, Mathematics, Statistics or related field of study.

EXPERIENCE: Prior experience with SAS, STATA, SPSS, and/or Excel. Prior experience, coursework, and/or training in qualitative data analysis, and Microsoft Office Suite and prior experience with NVIVO or Atlas is strongly preferred. Prior experience with public health research programs, grant writing/acquisition, patient-centered outcomes research, community engaged research, and/or qualitative research is highly preferred. 

OTHER: May consider a combination of directly related experience and education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – Senior Qualitative Research Data Analyst: 

EDUCATION: Bachelors in Health Sciences, Public Policy, Social Science, Information Management, Mathematics, Statistics or related field of study.

EXPEREINCE: Two (2) years related experience in a research environment required. Experience in SAS, STATA, SPSS, and/or Excel. Strong experience, coursework, and/or training in qualitative data analysis, and Microsoft Office Suite and prior experience with NVIVO or Atlas is strongly preferred. Prior experience with public health research programs, grant writing/acquisition, patient-centered outcomes research, community engaged research, and/or qualitative research is highly preferred. 

OTHER: May consider a combination of directly related experience and education.

Hiring Range: $48,000 – $55,000 per year for Qualitative Research Data Analyst/ $61,000 - $67,000 per year for Senior Qualitative Research Data Analyst (Commensurate with education and experience).
