Department Summary 

The College of Health and Public Service (HPS) at the University of North Texas, distinguished as one of the few Tier One research universities designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), prepares graduates to address diverse and complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities, and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health, and urban planning. We have seven academic departments with undergraduate and graduate programs, the Center for Public Management, the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, UNT Workplace Inclusion & Sustainable Employment (WISE) and a number of professional development and clinical training programs to facilitate careers to address a global society.

HPS students are trained to lead nonprofits, become educators, researchers and professionals who strengthen the diverse communities we serve with thoughtful, inclusive and equitable practices as audiologists, behavior analysts, city managers, emergency managers, health care administrators, public safety administrators, public health specialists, rehabilitation counselors, speech language pathologists, social workers, urban planners and more.

Located within HPS, the Department of Public Administration offers a nationally ranked NASPAA-accredited Master of Public Administration program and the Ph.D. program in Public Administration and Management. The department, which has a long tradition of local community engagement, also offers undergraduate degrees in Nonprofit Leadership Studies and Urban Policy and Planning, as well as an undergraduate minor in Public Administration. With 12 faculty and two staff members, the department is an active unit that values student service, externally funded research, and engaging community stakeholders to support the public good. The department initiated the Civic Engagement Learning Lab to support this mission. It is also home to the Center for Public Management (CPM), established in 1992 as the professional development arm of the College of Health and Public Service, to build capacity in the public and nonprofit sectors through training, research, and community engagement.

Position Summary 

Plays a pivotal role in the efficient functioning and growth of CPM, assisting the Assistant Director and Administrative Assistant with operations while leading multimedia content creation, social media management, and audience outreach efforts.

General Administrative and Multimedia Duties:

  • Assist in day-to-day administrative operations of the center.
  • Handle general office activities, including reception, phone communication, email, filing, and equipment maintenance.
  • Lead CPM website content management, creating engaging content, overseeing social media channels, and creating effective marketing and advertisements to grow customer base.
  • Contribute to the development of new outreach, community engagement, and audience growth efforts.
  • Maintain database containing records of all participants in workshops, training, and conferences. Generate new documents and provide mailing lists as needed.
  • Assist in identifying and onboarding new instructors.
  • Handle non-routine correspondence, compile and analyze data, and prepare reports and presentations for departmental stakeholders and external audiences on research productivity and community engagement outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience using multimedia content creation tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Audiovisual content creation skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Experience with customer relationship management systems, including email marketing and other engagement campaigns.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure, adapt to changes, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in keeping complex records, organizing data of a complex nature, and preparing reports in acceptable formats.
  • Strategic ability to conceptualize, plan, and organize multiple programs and assignments effectively.
  • Capability to work on complex and confidential tasks with judgment, tact, and resourcefulness.
  • Strong relationship-building skills.
  • Familiarity with policies, practices, procedures, and terminology of the assigned function.

15 hours per week; Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
