Position Summary 

The Horn Laboratory in The BioDiscovery Institute and Department of Biological Sciences at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team. Our lab broadly focuses on characterizing molecular processes and engineering lipid-based bioproducts in plant systems. The postdoctoral researcher will have opportunities to design and work on projects focused on functional assays of recombinant proteins in redox biochemistry, characterizing protein-protein interactions and protein structures using the latest techniques, and elucidating mechanisms in biochemical pathways connecting redox regulation with lipid metabolism. In turn, these results will contribute to a deeper understanding of lipids in photosynthetic systems for producing sustainable bioproducts and enhanced crop resiliency in dynamic environments.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • A doctorate in biochemistry, plant science, biology, chemistry, or related field.
  • Peer-reviewed publications in the field of protein biochemistry.
  • Prior experience with at least three of the following approaches: lipids, protein purification, protein structural characterization, proteomics, molecular biology (cloning), and/or protein-protein interactions is required.
  • Ability to design and conduct experiments both independently and collaboratively as needed.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Prior research experience working with plants is highly desired.
  • Programming skills and/or working with protein analysis software is valuable.
  • Strong scientific writing and communication skills are highly desired.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
