Program Manager, Natural Infrastructure Center for Environmental Justice and Resilience (NICER)

National Wildlife Federation

Founded in 1936, the National Wildlife Federation has grown into America's largest and most trusted grassroots conservation organization with 52 state and territorial affiliates and more than seven million members and supporters, including hunters, anglers, gardeners, birders, hikers, campers, paddlers, and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and stripes. The mission of the National Wildlife Federation is to unite all Americans to ensure wildlife thrive in our rapidly changing world. We advance this mission through programming focused on conserving wildlife, restoring habitats and waterways, expanding outdoor opportunities, connecting children with nature, advancing environmental justice, and addressing the causes and consequences of climate change.

Natural disasters and extreme weather events fueled by climate change are on the rise; each year, these events claim countless lives, cause billions of dollars of structural damage, and destroy wildlife habitats. We must drastically reduce emissions and stabilize the climate within the next few decades to avoid irreversible societal and ecosystem collapse, while at the same time helping communities adapt and thrive by empowering them to fight growing climate impacts. Deploying nature-based solutions can help us reach this goal by increasing community resilience, protecting wildlife habitats, improving air and water quality, and supporting local economies.

The National Wildlife Federation is a leader in this space, with decades of experience advancing natural infrastructure solutions through federal policy, climate adaptation science, environmental justice initiatives, state and local policy advocacy, and on-the-ground projects across our seven regional centers. With significant new federal resources available to support natural infrastructure projects, it is imperative we create the structure and support necessary to ensure this funding is used responsibly and equitably.

The National Wildlife Federation is establishing the Natural Infrastructure Center for Environmental Justice and Resilience (NICER) to help facilitate the policy, education, and application of natural infrastructure, and to build community awareness and capacity to implement solutions at the local level. By addressing the many barriers to acquiring funding and implementing projects, NICER will help ensure this influx of federal funding will make a lasting impact on the climate, communities, and wildlife.

To support our mission, we are seeking a NICER Program Manager to work in our National Advocacy Center in Washington, D.C. The goal of the NICER is to build on and expand the Federation’s ability to provide educational and technical assistance to frontline communities and local officials on how to implement nature-based strategies to improve resilience to climate change and other environmental threats.
