As a Director, Data Scientist, Medical and Real-World Data Analytics (MRWDA), you will serve in a leadership position requiring technical expertise and strategic vision. You will oversee a team of data scientists, manage resources, and collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver high-quality analytics products. Your role will involve collaborating with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to achieve MRWDA objectives aligned with Otsuka's goals. You will possess advanced skills in computational data analysis, artificial intelligence, and mathematical modeling, with a focus on applying machine learning methodologies. Responsibilities include engaging stakeholders, influencing strategies, and leading initiatives to generate data-driven insights and evidence that support Otsuka's strategic direction.

You will report to the Director, Data Science and Advanced Analytics. This position is based in Princeton, New Jersey. Otsuka maintains a hybrid work policy and travel is expected 10-15% of the time based on business needs.

Job Description

  • Implement MRWDA portfolio objectives and develop departmental strategies.
  • Establish processes for optimizing data analytics systems and execution.
  • Collaborate effectively to ensure portfolio success.
  • Drive awareness of AI/ML applications across the organization.
  • Implement novel technical solutions using machine learning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support evidence generation.
  • Lead the planning, development, and delivery of data science solutions.
  • Mentor team members to foster professional growth.
  • Explore and conduct Proof of Concept (POC) initiatives for new applications utilizing the latest technologies such as Large Language Models (LLMs) to enhance data analytics capabilities.
  • Evaluate the feasibility and potential impact of integrating LLMs into existing workflows, recommending adoption strategies based on POC results.
  • Collaborate with all partners to identify opportunities for innovation and experimentation with emerging technologies in data science and analytics.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in AI/ML, actively contributing insights to shape our technical roadmap and strategy.

Minimum Qualifications/Educational Qualifications

Education/Knowledge/ Experience and Skills:

  • 7-10 years of leadership experience in advanced data sciences within the pharmaceutical, or Bio-Tech industries.
  • PhD in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics,
  • Statistics, or a related field with focus on advanced and modern Data Science, including the use of machine learning.
  • Expertise in real-world data assets and applying them to generate scientific evidence.
  • Proficiency in machine learning techniques and tools (e.g., pytorch, TensorFlow).
  • Project management skills with a focus on delivering impactful initiatives.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Postdoc with research into novel methodologies or their application in pharmaceuticals is strongly preferred.
