This position exists to provide comprehensive, value based, medication-related care to achieve definite outcomes that improve a patient's quality of life. The incumbent acts in collaboration with other healthcare professionals in the shared responsibility for patient drug therapy outcomes. Key job duties may consist of ensuring the safety and effectiveness of the medication use process, processing and dispensing medications per order or prescription, medication therapy monitoring, regulatory compliance, maintaining oversight over pharmacist extenders, maintaining the security of medications, and protecting the confidentiality of patient information. In addition, displays mastery when providing drug information support for healthcare personnel, ensuring continuity of care, and anticipating potential issues in common and less common situations. Position also coordinates the workflow of the department, regularly collects and analyzes data for process improvement projects, may serve as project lead on major projects affecting pharmacy, aids in the training and coaching of team members, regularly serves as a resource for colleagues, and interacts with healthcare professionals on drug utilization and cost containment.
- Develop and implement compounding procedures, protocols, and quality assurance measures to ensure the accuracy, sterility (if applicable), and potency of compounded medications.
- Work collaboratively with the System Pharmacy team to provide evidence-based recommendations regarding appropriate storage, handling, and beyond-use-dating of compounded medications.
- Utilize stability data to inform decision-making regarding compounding practices, formulation adjustments, and inventory management strategies to ensure the delivery of safe and effective medications to patients.
- Lead and participate in interdisciplinary teams focused on quality improvement initiatives related to compounding practices, such as standardizing procedures, implementing new technologies, and optimizing workflow efficiencies.
- Oversee the procurement and inventory management of components, ensuring adequate supply levels and proper storage conditions.
- Train and mentor staff, including pharmacy students, on compounding techniques, safety procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Investigate and resolve any issues or discrepancies related to compounding processes, medication orders, or quality control measures.
- Support team by staffing both sterile and non-sterile departments as a compounding pharmacist at least two shifts per week or more as determined by pharmacy leadership.
- Weekend coverage as assigned.
- Board Certification in Sterile Compounding or willingness to obtain one in the future is preferred.
- Requires current Indiana License or eligibility for Indiana licensure as a pharmacist.
- Certification is required, if applicable. (e.g. BCPS).
- Demonstration of > 5 years experience, pharmacy residency training, or advanced degree is required.
- Demonstration of leadership attributes.
