Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell seeks a Press Secretary to help lead a fast-paced, high-volume communications office. The Press Secretary will assist in the development and implementation of communications plans for office initiatives and cases and respond to media inquiries. 

Primary Duties: Responsibilities of the Press Secretary include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in managing the press staff, including Deputy Press Secretaries and a Digital Director;
  • Serve as a primary media spokesperson within the Attorney General’s Office, covering areas such as healthcare, energy and environment, consumer protection, fair labor, criminal matters, and others;
  • Pitch stories and respond to media inquiries from local and national print, digital, radio, and television outlets;
  • Draft and edit press releases on a wide range of priorities and initiatives from divisions across the Office;
  • Prepare memos and talking points for press conferences, media interviews, and public events;
  • Research and identify story ideas to develop with reporters;
  • Coordinate media availabilities and press conferences for news on a local and national level;
  • Spearhead a variety of media relations issues, editorials, op-eds, public outreach campaigns, and projects to amplify the work of the Office.

Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt

Salary: $74,800 to $82,500

Qualifications

Position Requirements: Candidates should have fluency with current affairs and be skilled at multitasking, meeting deadlines, and working collaboratively with diverse groups. The Press Secretary is expected to work some nights and weekends, and ideally, should possess a valid driver’s license. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve and an interest in supporting a respectful, diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment. Other qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience; broad experience in journalism or public relations;
  • Proficient writing, oral communication, and research skills;
  • Previous management experience or work overseeing a team;
  • Ability to pitch stories and communicate office matters to a public audience, professionally and effectively;
  • Experience in communicating on digital platforms;
  • Experience in news-management techniques and strategies;
  • Experience as a spokesperson, required;
  • Ability to multitask, work on a deadline, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
