Position Summary

Casella offers a challenging internship opportunity for high-potential candidates. A real-life learning environment, interns work on critical sustainability projects that provide exposure to customers, various teams, and leaders within the organization. Interns are given challenging assignments that help them to become proficient in sustainability, business, and customer service.

This experience will provide exposure to Casella’s operations through professional interviews, facility tours, skills training, and the opportunity to support the company’s efforts to tangibly improve its environmental and social impacts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engages the public in targeted recycling education programs for select municipal customers in support of the efforts to measurably reduce contamination and increase participation in recycling programs.
  • Conducts curbside bin audits to determine what education would be helpful for customers.
  • Tracks community progress on key recycling metrics and brainstorms possible ideas of how to improve metrics.
  • Working with internal facility operations to improve audit process and communication
  • Provides virtual facility tours to give an inside look of Casella’s facilities.
  • Conducts research in support of a sustainability topic and prepares a defined deliverable. Past topics have included: fuel efficiency, sustainable procurement, zero waste events, emission quantification models, and others.
  • Prepares, completes, and presents on one primary project from their internship experience.
  • The internship will run for approximately ten weeks from June into August, averaging 30 hours per week. Over the course of the summer, interns should expect to work several early mornings and one or two weekend days to support community events.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

Applicants for the internship must be working towards a bachelor’s or other advanced degree from an accredited institution in environmental science, sustainability, business, engineering, or another related program. Strong communication, presentation, technology, and organizational skills combined with excellent problem solving, research, and analytical abilities are required.

Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with the public and partner with individuals at all levels of the organization. A willingness and ability to engage proactively in continuous improvement is essential.

A valid driver’s license and an ability to travel within Casella’s operating footprint is required, with some overnight travel expected.
