Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Software Department Manager to join our Integrated National Systems (INS) Engineering organization within the Payload & Ground Systems division of Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems sector. This position would be based in the Aurora, Colorado area.

This is a dual role encompassing both people leadership and technical execution leadership across people and programs as part of the INS Business Unit. This Department Manager requires experience contributing to program success and managing people across the following disciplines: Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Database Administration, and Systems Administration. The Department Manager will also be a manager of managers and have direct supervision over 8-9 full-time Engineering Section Managers that collectively support an organization of ~240 employees. This position is a full-time functional role.

The candidate will bring a balance of people management and engineering process rigor to help the collective organization achieve and improve upon meeting contractual objectives in cost, schedule, and technical capabilities.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Functional oversight for a team of managers and engineers across Department disciplines. This involves goal setting, performance assessments, career development, training, mentoring, and all people care aspects of a large engineering organization.
  • Staffing and workload forecasting in close collaboration with program managers; employee inclusion, engagement; employee training and identification/training of skills required to execute on programs.
  • Recruiting, sourcing, onboarding, performance management and contract maintenance for contractors working in the business area as required.
  • Contribute to program execution with involvement in proposals, process and documentation reviews, and contributing to engineering technical interchanges to help solve complex technical or programmatic issues.
  • Collaborate with other Department Managers and the Operating Unit Business Partner with a strong focus on engineering rigor.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with Program Managers and Operating Unit Directors.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications: (Basic)

  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical STEM discipline + 12 years of exp; Master's + 9 years of exp; PhD + 7 years of exp; years of experience must be directly related to the technical disciplines within this Department
  • At least 5 years of experience leading in an engineering matrixed environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with track record of timely and independent closure of tasks and action items.
  • Strong practical knowledge of Engineering Process and Management
  • Demonstrated success working directly on programs and/or research efforts.
  • Proven track record of People management.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have: (Preferred)

  • Knowledge of the Integrated National Systems Business Unit (INS BU) missions, development activities, or business areas.
  • Breadth of software engineering lifecycle experience on large or small programs, and business development activities
  • Program management and customer management experience.
  • Strong understanding of agile principles as well as other lean methodologies.
  • Knowledge of/experience with Model Driven Engineering (MDE) development is highly desired

Salary Range: $172,500.00 - $258,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
