The Transition Grant Assistant will provide general administrative/clerical support to the Office of Diverse Learner Supports and Services (ODLSS) Transition Services Team. The successful candidate will provide support services to a multidisciplinary team responsible for informing, implementing, expanding and monitoring transition services for students with disabilities including but not limited to Department of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) to support seamless transition to post-secondary independence and success.

Job Summary: 

The Transition Grant Assistant will report to the ODLSS Transition Manager, and will be responsible for managing a variety of processes and procedures relative to the application process.

The Transition Grant Assistant will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and inputting student referral data in both digital organizational system and WebCM (State of IL data system)
  • Managing data tracking system needed to document the student referral process
  • Communicating with internal and external administrative offices, outside agencies and school personnel
  • Performing routine office duties on a daily basis
  • Assisting professional staff in the completion of required responsibilities
  • Generate reports as needed
  • Exhibiting appropriate interpersonal skills to support a positive workplace environment
  • Participates in staff development activities and conferences in order to maintain professional growth
  • Performs additional duties as determined by the Chief Officer or his/her designee

In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Transition Grant Assistant must possess the following qualifications: 

Education Required: 

  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience Required: 

  • Minimum of One-Three (1-3) years of experience in a professional office setting
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of IMPACT and WebCM is a plus

  • Ability to respond accurately, comprehensively, and clearly to questions from parents, public officials, school administrators, and others
  • Extremely detail-oriented
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work activities to ensure project completion
  • Self-motivated with high ethical standards
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and writing skills are a must
  • Spanish speaking preferred

Conditions of Employment

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:

  • Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
  • Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 - Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. “Up-to-date” on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters.
