Job Summary: 

The Airborne RF Sensors department has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Principal Air to Ground Mode Systems Engineering Technical Lead. 

The Senior Principal Air to Ground Mode Systems Engineer Tech Lead will possess career experience and technical knowledge in radar algorithm/mode techniques associated with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Sea Surface Search/Track (SSS/T), and/or Ground Moving Target Indication (GMTI). Other desirable skills include familiarity with complex radar capabilities, such as active electronically scanned array (AESA) antennas, receiver/exciters (REXs), Electronic Protection (EP), radar digital signal processing electronics, pointing and stabilization measurement instruments, and control algorithms.

The Air to Ground Technical Lead typically has a System Engineering background with knowledge of radar architecture, requirements, modeling and simulation techniques, system analysis, and radar mode development, with an emphasis in technical leadership throughout the product lifecycle, including hardware and software design, development, integration, and test (I&T), and requirements verification. 

This role is 100% On-Site and is based in El Segundo, California 

Responsibilities to Anticipate: 

Lead the development of mathematical algorithms for air-to-ground mode radar signal processing. 

Provide technical leadership throughout the product lifecycle, including hardware and software design, development, integration, and test (I&T), requirements verification, and flight test activities. 

Review and approve SE and technical CDRLs/SDRLs. 

Performance predictions and analysis of data received on various platforms. 

Guide the technical and programmatic presentations to both internal and external customers. 

Interface with the Chief Engineer, Lead Systems Engineer, IPTLs, and other team members on a regular basis. 

Influence others to accept job function’s view/practices and agree/accept new concepts, practices, and approaches.

Communicate with executive leadership regarding matters of significant importance to the organization. 

Conduct briefings with senior leaders within the job function. 

Responsible for improving upon existing processes and systems using significant conceptualizing, reasoning, and interpretation. 

Mentor the early career engineers and review their work for quality. 

Basic Qualifications: 

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical/ RF engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related STEM discipline with 10+ years of relevant experience with specific experience in the following areas below: 

  • RF and/or Radar systems 
  • Signal processing, sea surface search/track, synthetic aperture radar, or ground moving target indication radar. 
  • Radar and/or receiver systems design and integration 

Air to ground radar algorithm/mode techniques associated with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Sea Surface Search/Track (SSS/T), and/or Ground Moving Target Indication (GMTI). 

Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)software (Cameo & Rhapsody), Failure Reporting and Corrective Action Systems (FRACAS), DOORS, Agile, DevOps, scrum, software & languages (MATLAB, SysML, Python, Bash, C++, Java) 

Present in written and oral forms to managers, peers, and customers 

An active and current DoD US Security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Master’s degree in science in Electrical/RF Engineering 

Integration and testing at the module and unit level 

Special Test Equipment (STE) for test and operation 

Signal processing, modeling, & simulation 

Experience with integration of platform motion sensing data with mode processing algorithms for Motion Compensation techniques especially valuable 

Complex radar capabilities, such as active electronically scanned array (AESA) antennas, receiver/exciters (REXs), Electronic Protection (EP), radar digital signal processing electronics, pointing and stabilization measurement instruments, and control algorithms. 

Mathematical problem-solving ability and data analysis experience 

Work experience with one of the following areas related to radar systems: search or track, surveillance, reconnaissance, electronic protection, ID, or adaptive techniques. 

An understanding of the physical limitations to implementing complex algorithms in real hardware

The salary range for this role is 130,000 USD - 272,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
