The Principal Business Strategy Manager-Healthcare role will sit on the newly formed Portfolio Evolution & Incubation (PE&I) team in the HLS sector, reporting to the Strategy & Incubation Lead with role visibility to the Vice President, Portfolio Evolution & Incubation. This team is focused on transforming clinical workflows, and helping drive efficiencies and intelligence in how providers (physicians, nurses, radiologists) navigate their workflows, often intertwined with the electronic health record system, with regard to documentation, clinical coding, quality measures, revenue cycle, etc. You will be tasked with continuous market evaluation to identify and evaluate potential opportunities for new innovation, partnership, acquisition or divestiture for existing products in the PE&I portfolio. You will serve as a connection point from the team to the market, communicating insights in briefs, presentations or other medium to senior leaders to ensure a common awareness of the current landscape and market disruptions. You will take the product recommendations from the PE&I leadership, and leverage a framework to determine the best partner, Independent Service Providers (ISVs), or acquirer for a given product.

Research, Analysis & Market Understanding

  • Conducts market-based research by collecting and interpreting information (e.g., financial statements, reports, analyses, stakeholder feedback, etc.) including researching existing business and identifying new spaces for Microsoft Health & Life Sciences (HLS)
  • Develops a deep understanding of the HLS product portfolio, strategic priorities, product position gaps, and potential opportunities
  • Develops a deep understanding of key market players, and flags significant market trends or disruptions on the horizon
  • Develops and maintains an understanding of customers, competitors, partners, business models, market sizing, and industry trends
  • Develops and maintains an understanding of the merger and acquisition (M&A), venture funding and public market environment and trends

Financial Modeling

  • Develops a financial modeling framework to inform potential partner deal terms, identify divestiture value & costs, and define the latent value of existing assets
  • Drives evaluation of Microsoft strategic alternatives (e.g., buy, build, partner), including evaluating Independent Service Providers (ISVs) of interest and other acquisition alternatives
  • Ensures product roadmap, go-to-market, integration plans, and related issues are considered
  • Reviews and provides guidance to finance teams in developing and refining financial forecasts and related analyses
  • Provides perspective on targets including prospects, price expectations, returns, alternatives, potential interlopers, and key decision makers

Problem Solving & Insights

  • Synthesizes findings into insights across projects, including implications that inform business decisions, leveraging executive presence to influence decisions and proactively identifying expansive ideas for company strategy, often missed by others
  • Leverages insights to develop recommendations and seeks to provide thought leadership (e.g., trend identification, implications of competitor moves) around potential future growth opportunities and strategic issues for HLS

Communication

  • Communicates and advocates insights to senior business leaders (e.g., CVPs, VPs, Directors) and conveys viewpoints through written documents (e.g., memos, reports) and influence models (e.g., meetings, presentations)
  • Delivers project findings recommendations, and implications to senior executives to facilitate decision making

Stakeholder Management

  • Establishes and maintains key points of contact with internal teams from Finance, Marketing, Engineering, Corporate Development, and Corporate Strategy
  • Acts as an advisor to senior leadership, leveraging deep technical/product knowledge and market awareness to inform on strategic business decisions

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field AND 6+ years strategy, business planning, consulting, and/or partner organization experience
  • OR Master's Degree in Business Administration or a related field AND 4+ years strategy, business planning, consulting, and/or partner organization experience
  • OR equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years experience in Strategy or Management Consulting focused in Healthcare
  • 2+ years experience performing financial modeling or data analytics

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate at an executive level through visual, written, and verbal communication within a global context, technical and non‐technical
  • Ability to navigate, influence, and build trust across a broad set of cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Familiarity with clinical documentation, coding, quality reporting, and/or revenue cycle management
  • Demonstrate strategic framing skills to create alignment between engineering, product marketing, and business owners 
  • Deliver results and demonstrate good judgment, personal accountability, and high integrity 
  • Work independently and effectively as part of a broad team, and drive successful outcomes with virtual teams

Business Strategy IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 - $242,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 - $264,000 per year.
