Advertised Job SummaryUnder limited supervision, reporting to the Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Corporate and Foundation Relations, the Senior Director of Development (Senior Director) for Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and management of a comprehensive and ongoing development program for the University of South Carolina with emphasis on national foundation gifts of $100K and above. Responsibilities include the development and implementation of strategies for the solicitation of gifts from national foundations to support University goals and priorities. Development a plan of action through active engagement externally through creativity, discovery, and outreach efforts for National Foundation gifts. Other responsibilities include active engagement internally by working with the Executive Director in executing a successful CFR program, and in cultivating national foundation prospective donors. Partners with colleagues to identify, cultivate and complete proposals and solicitations from corporations and foundations. Proactively provides follow-up and stewardship on completed gifts. This position will be part of the University Development team and will operate within the system and procedures of USC Development to ensure consistent and well-coordinated activities.

Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree and 5 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience. Required to travel to geographical location of donors/prospects and work evenings and weekends. Must have a reliable means of transportation.

Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree and 5 years proven experience in major gift/development in higher education and/or hybrid development model. Previous campaign experience. Corporate and foundations/major gifts solicitation experience and graduate degree are preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesThorough knowledge of principles and methods of planning and conducting a comprehensive corporate and foundation relations program. Strong track record of visiting and qualifying donors/prospects. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with faculty, alumni, donors, volunteers, businesses, and the general public, and cultivate gifts. Demonstrated ability in writing, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Experience in hiring, managing, training, mentoring, and motivating directors of development and administrative support staff in the workplace. Effective computer experience including database operation and work processing. Proven ability to develop relationships with leaders in a broad range of professions.

Job DutySupport Strategy Development and Collaboration:

Oversees the day-to-day management of CFR’s coordination with national foundations. Responsible for working alongside the AVP, CFR colleagues, university administration, university leadership, faculty, and staff to identify key university priorities and lead strategy sessions for national foundations that fit within our mission and vision of the University. Develops prospecting resources and tools for faculty and staff; and to equip CFR and colleges with resources to increase engagement with national foundations. Leads the initiative for all national foundations’ interactions and assessment.

Manages a portfolio of key national foundation gift prospects. Responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting a gift portfolio that benefits program priorities of the University. Uses Blackbaud CRM to coordinate and document all national foundations’ relationships as well as any relevant assignment, cultivation, or solicitation information or pending opportunities.

Solicits prospective donors, including key individuals associated with national foundations, in coordination with the AVP and all assigned colleges/schools. The number of solicitations are set and established by the AVP with consultation with the Senior Director that include individual solicitation goals. All solicitations are documented within a Plan and Opportunity in Blackbaud CRM. Establish a donor pipeline by entering all opportunities in Blackbaud CRM. Adheres to Prospect Development policies and procedures.

Job DutyPerformance Goals:

Meets process performance goals set and established by the AVP with consultation with the Senior Director that includes individual goals. These goals include a set number of personal initial visits, and solicitations, with a focus on the Top 5 gift closures selected at the beginning of the fiscal year and tracked via the Fundraiser Dashboard through timely documentation in Blackbaud CRM. Stewardship visits are strongly encouraged.
