Brief Job Overview

This is supervisory position responsible to Plan, Implement, and Coordinate the Policies and Procedures surrounding the Environment, Health and Safety of UPS India Facility & Personnel. A role where proactiveness is a key requirement and incumbent is expected to handle Environment, Health and Safety related requirements for India Sites in coordination with Global EHS. The incumbent will be also responsible for driving initiatives on Environment, Sustainability & Governance (ESG) for the organization.

  • Contributing to organization team efforts in formulating strategies, policies, plans and monitoring the organization performance to ensure that environment, health and safety policy and its objectives are met with.
  • Implementing Environment, Health and Safety systems and practices
  • Develops local policies with respect to EHS and ensure compliance with all approved company SOP’s.
  • Collaborates with Head of Departments and Other Stakeholders on Environment, Health and Safety practices.
  • Plan Safety Promotional activities to create safety consciousness and improve awareness.
  • Closely interact with line management to identify the scope for improvement in safety.
  • Evaluate and provide appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for specific operations and ensure they are maintained well.
  • Ensure that all near misses and incidents are reported and complete investigation is done with appropriate Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) and the lessons are shared across.
  • Ensure Health, Welfare, Emergency and Rehabilitation services are available.
  • Conduct EHS internal observations and audits, mock drills, facilitate external audits and initiate appropriate actions, improvements as per recommendations.
  • Monitor and ensure Occupational Health Centre & Ambulance
  • Conduct workplace monitoring and thermography study as per defined frequency
  • Monitor and ensure that all fire protection systems are fit and ready all the time.
  • Implement robust work permit systems and monitoring its effectiveness.
  • Ensure waste storage room is maintained in a neat and clean condition and waste disposal is done on timely basis.
  • Ensure daily, weekly and monthly EHS parameters and record same in appropriate forms.
  • Environment, Sustainability & Governance (ESG)
  • Coordinate with Global EHS Manager for collating necessary information with regards to Environment, Sustainability and Governance from time to time.
  • Take appropriate initiatives on ESG matters to improve the score of sites.
  • Compliance, Regulatory & HQ Interactions
  • Liaison with Statutory Bodies (through approved consultants) e.g. Pollution Control Board, Fire Department, Atomic Regulatory Board and Other statutory bodies on Safety & Environment.
  • Ensure all the environmental monitoring, reports submission to Statutory Authorities is done on timely basis.
  • Ensure all regulatory approvals, agreements & licenses are upto date.
  • Develop, conduct and implement EHS due diligence, audit and risk reporting.
  • Ensure all operations at site are complied to local regulations and policies/standards of USP India & HQ in connection with EHS.
  • Participate in interactions with HQ EHS Manager on timely basis for site updates and best practice sharing.
  • Education & Training
  • Conduct regular training to employees & contract staff to increase the level of awareness in EHS front including maintenance of effective Emergency Response Procedures covering Mock Drills.
  • Encourage on Job Training for practical approach, continuous knowledge gaining through external trainings & seminars.

Who USP is Looking For?

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:

  • Minimum 10 Years of experience in Environment, Health and Safety field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Industrial Safety, or a related field.
  • Pharma GMP/QMS Exposures and experience will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in ISO Certifications
  • Self motivated, result oriented, team player and should have ability to multi task.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in supervisory level.

  • Prior experience in pharmaceutical and scientific R&D industry.
  • Results driven with demonstrated successful outcomes.
  • Ability and desire to work well with diverse employees and customers in a cooperative and friendly manner.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Able to work flexible hours when needed. In addition to normal business hours serves on the Emergency Response Team to provide 24 hour a day, 7 days a week response to emergency alarm calls and can be available on short notice to support requests during unusual hours, especially early or late in the day during the business week.
