Digital is also enhancing the customer experience across our portfolio of digital services – from our apps to our payment systems – as well as delivering a better range of products and support to EE (consumer) and BT (business) customers. These include solutions developed in house or in conjunction with partners. We are delivering joint go-to market products with hyperscalers like Google; our Etc. innovation and incubation hub is building new data productions as well as innovative new solutions in industries that are adjacent to BT Group’s core – for example, in drones, payments, EV charging and health.

We are seeking a new external communications manager following an internal promotion. They will join a team that is showcasing: 

  • The acceleration of BT Group to stakeholders engaged in the future of our business - for example investors, colleagues, analysts, media and industry influencers. 
  • Our partnerships with leading technology businesses around the world including Google, Microsoft, AWS, Salesforce and ServiceNow
  • Our talent advocacy and attraction programmes, highlighting how we are equipping our business with the right skills for the future.

What you’ll be doing

  • Manage Digital’s busy schedule of media engagements, speaker slots and award entries.
  • Run our Digital at BT Group LinkedIn presence - developing new content, assisting our leaders, amplifying relevant BT Group content and exploring ways to grow and better engage with our community. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues to deliver our narrative - be that spokespeople, other communications/corporate affairs professionals from across BT Group and marketing managers promoting new products.
  • Provide communications counsel to a range of internal stakeholders - establishing yourself as a trusted advisor to key internal contacts that we support every day, from subject matter experts to Directors and MDs. 
  • Co-ordinate with Digital’s communications colleagues in India to ensure a consistent global narrative for Digital at BT Group.
  • Line manage one team member who provides programme delivery and reporting support.
  • Work with our external communications agencies to meet their objectives, helping to measure and showcase our results and demonstrate that PR is really moving the needle.
  • Challenge default thinking on media and communications strategy, pushing the usual boundaries with creative thinking that sets an innovating tone within BT Group Corporate Affairs.

The skills you'll need

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, press office environment either in-house or at a PR agency. 
  • A passion for the industries and sectors Digital operates in. Background in and passion for technology or telecommunications a significant plus. 
  • A good understanding of the external communications toolkit – including managing media relations programmes, developing engaging content, co-ordinating agency relationships, managing events, social media management. 
  • Strong understanding of the UK media landscape; hold established relationships, or a proven ability to build key relationships, with relevant media.
  • Excellent writer, with experience writing reactive media statements, thought leadership commentary, press releases and content for social media.
  • Great at stakeholder management and an awesome collaborator.
  • Ability to spot a story and ability to tap into our key audience’s passions.
  • Logical, curious, detail-oriented – ability to analyse complicated situations and communicate them in a clear and understandable way.
  • Robust, calm under pressure, and persuasive – the ability to debate issues and clearly, calmly communicate to a range of audiences under pressure.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects at any one time. Confidence to work with, challenge and advise senior leaders.
