JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director & Career Coach will provide personalized career coaching for undergraduate and graduate students as well as alumnae/i. From assessment and skill building exercises to counseling on career planning and job search strategies, the Assistant Director & Career Coach will play a critical role in creating synergy between career readiness and preparation with course curriculum and student academic success, as well as serving as liaison with faculty to deliver these services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provide individual and group career coaching to undergraduate and graduate students as well as alumnae/i on career planning, job search strategies, professional skills development, and related topics;
  • Administer assessment, skill building and evaluation tools, identifying talents, interests and personality characteristics to inform career decisions;
  • Develop, facilitate and teach career courses, workshops, and programs in and outside of the classroom;
  • Collaborate with faculty and various departments for workshops and career presentations;
  • Assess the relevance and success of programming and workshops, leveraging trends, best practices and participant feedback to improve and enhance content and delivery;
  • Collaborate with student groups, various departments, and CEC staff to develop DE&I career development programming and events;
  • Assist with updating career assignments, materials and instructions for course curriculum;
  • Assist in providing career development training to graduate and undergraduate student workers and faculty to provide awareness of resources and services to the broader community;
  • Serve as a Strengths Champion at Simmons and incorporate CliftonStrengths into relevant appointments and programs;
  • Serve as a resource and collaborate with the multicultural center and various student affinity groups to increase coaching programs for Simmons diverse student body.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Represent the CEC at various internal campus events, committees, and meetings as well as external conferences and meetings;
  • Maintain current knowledge of professional trends, resources, issues and best practices in the career education field, attending professional meetings and/or conferences as applicable;
  • Assist with website and resource content development and updates as needed relevant to role;
  • Serve as a point of contact for students, faculty, staff, alumnae/I, employers, and other external clients who engage with the CEC, creating an inclusive, welcoming and supportive environment;
  • Assist Director with office wide diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and programming.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • Excellent communication skills, written, verbal, and interpersonal.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree preferred in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs or related field;
  • Experience advising, coaching, or mentoring required; preferably two or more years of relevant professional experience and/or combination of relevant graduate assistantship or internship experience;
  • Experience advising and coaching students, preferably in career development;
  • Experience developing and facilitating workshops, training and/or presentations;
  • Strong Microsoft Office, Google Suite and Zoom skills required;
  • Passionate about supporting diversity, equity & inclusion initiatives to create an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive environment;
  • Ability to work as part of a dedicated and passionate team to support Simmons students.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Full-time (40-hours/week) position
  • This position may be eligible for a partial remote work schedule of 2 days per week remote, subject to business needs requiring a presence on campus.
  • 12 month position
  • Office environment 
  • Physical effort/lifting, sedentary - up to 10 pounds; 
  • Occasional night or weekend work required
