Job Description

This role can be located in either of our Creative Center : Hilversum (Netherlands) or Neuilly-sur-Seine (France).

It’s an exciting time to be part of IFF, we are looking for a Global Senior Antitrust and Trade Compliance Counsel who will serve as a senior level antitrust and trade compliance lawyer for a fast paced, multinational, multi-billion dollar specialty chemical and biotechnology publicly traded corporation.

The successful incumbent will provide timely, strategic and practical legal advice and support to senior business leadership regarding a full range of antitrust/competition law matters including investigations and potential enforcements, competition compliance matters, training, M&A support and broader competition law advice. In the area of trade compliance, support will be provided on issues relating to sanctions and export controls, and may be sought on matters of tariff classification, country of origin documentation, antidumping and countervailing duties, Importer Security Filing, UFLPA compliance, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and other trade regulations.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing client counseling, risk management and legal support including compliance assistance, interpretative guidance and managing enforcement cases. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Advise senior business leaders and commercial teams on antitrust, competition and trade compliance inquiries spanning all ompany business segments on a global basis. 
  • Provide legal management of any potential antitrust-related and/or trade compliance investigations, violations and litigation and SEC reporting support.
  • Provide support and lead regulatory interactions related to antitrust and trade compliance investigations and compliance matters. 
  • Monitor and report on antitrust and trade compliance law and regulation developments for issues that could impact the Company’s business on a global basis. 
  • Coordinate with regulatory, operations, legal and compliance colleagues and outside counsel to ensure the most effective support and relevant expertise is applied to all antitrust and trade compliance matters.
  • Collaborate with commercial legal team to identify and implement process improvements to antitrust-related corporate policy, processes and trainings.
  • Support identification and implementation of process improvements to streamline antitrust-related corporate policy, processes and trainings.
  • Provide antitrust support to legal and business colleagues on potential transactions, including assessment and execution of relevant regulatory filings (e.g., HSR), substantive antitrust analysis of the transaction, and counseling on any antitrust issues in due diligence.
  • Create and present trainings on topics of antitrust compliance and trade compliance.
  • Support compliance team in investigations into potential violations of antitrust or trade compliance policies.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Admission to practice law in Europe
  • 8+ years of work experience in antitrust or trade compliance law at a law firm, government and/or in-house corporate legal environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • A proven track record of effectively working with and building collaborative relationships with all levels within the organization.
  • Comfortable working in a multinational, multicultural, manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10%.

Preferred:

  • Experience with the specialty chemical and other hazardous chemicals industry is desirable.
