Job Summary:

Disney Streaming Services (“DSS”) is a division within The Walt Disney Company that is responsible for its D2C businesses as well as providing technology services on behalf of third parties.

DSS launched ESPN’s OTT service ESPN+ in April which contains content from UFC, MLB, NHL, MLS, Top Rank boxing, college sports and international soccer and rugby. DSS will be launching Disney SVOD on a global basis starting in 2019. DSS’s roster of sports and entertainment technology services clients include MLB, WWE, Fox Sports, Hulu, Sony and Twitter.

The BD team is responsible for strategic assessment, valuation, negotiations and partner management tied to content acquisition and distribution for the Disney Streaming Services (“DSS”) business lines (ESPN+, Disney SVOD, NHL and Partner Platform Services) and anything impacting our underlying technology platform. The BD team also partners with various stakeholders in setting the growth strategy associated with DSS business lines and technology platform, including laying out the addressable market, how we should prioritize our strategic focus, money and human capital and our best path to execution.

Opportunities are evaluated through the lens of subscriber acquisition and retention for the D2C offerings, growing licensing revenue for the NHL business and transitioning third party customers to a platform-based model. Business development may include opportunities associated with content acquisition for ESPN+ in partnership with ESPN, licensing of NHL content, marketing and distribution of our D2C offerings, use of our platform by third parties and underlying improvements to our platform including build/buy/partner decisions around vendors. The role requires collaborating closely with the GM’s of our respective business lines, product, engineering, operations, marketing, ad sales/ad ops, programming, finance and legal professionals as part of the day-to-day execution.

DSS is seeking a Senior Manager Business Development who will be responsible for pursuing key partnerships, content and distribution opportunities and supporting the overall business development group. This role requires an individual who can combine a solid understanding of the overall media and digital media space with a comprehensive foundation in financial and business analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Support BD team/management in identifying, negotiating and managing strategic relationships
  • Identify new strategic opportunities for growth
  • Conduct industry and company analysis, including market research, financial statement analysis and building and maintaining financial and operational models
  • Support senior management in overall media strategy initiatives, including creation of comprehensive and cohesive presentations for senior-level review
  • Actively develop internal and external relationships to help advance group and overall company initiatives
  • Analyze key industry trends and market conditions relevant to DSS’s business

Basic Qualifications:

Required Education

  • BS/BA from a major university

Preferred Education

  • MBA or JD, preferred
