Virtualization Systems Administrator

Location: Kansas City MO (will consider Quantico MCB VA and Camp Lejuene NC)

Overview: 

We are seeking a Virtualization Systems Administrator to:

  • Support US Marine Corps (USMC) enterprise-level hybrid cloud data center engineering, implementation, operations and cybersecurity
  • Enable USMC world-wide customers to host mission critical applications in multi-cloud environments to support warfighter requirements

What you will do:

As a Virtualization Systems Administrator you will support the USMC Enterprise Hybrid Cloud Hosting environment supporting operations in on-prem, AWS, Azure, VMWare Cloud on AWS and other cloud environments

  • Designs, deploys, maintains, configures, and sustains virtualization infrastructure (VMWare, Azure & AWS) and datacenter monitoring and management applications, including: VMWare's Aria Operations and Orchestration suites, APC StruxureWare DCE, PRTG, FTP Solutions, and any monitoring agents and plugins and integrations associated with these or other applications or cloud environments.
  • Designs, deploys, maintains, configures, and sustains hybrid-cloud, multi-cloud, multi-tenant virtualization, management and orchestration tools such as VMware Cloud Director (VCD) and Aria Automation.
  • Hardens, maintains vulnerability management posture, and supports development of POA&M to ensure compliance of management and monitoring tools with cybersecurity requirements and approved secure configurations.
  • Serves as an application/infrastruture SME; leading investigation and diagnosis, workaround enactment, root cause analysis and resolution for all incidents and problems.
  • Coordinates within Operations teams and event/incident/problem management staff to identify appropriate alerting levels, dashboards, processes, response actions, and supports configuration of tools to provide highly effective proactive management and monitoring capabilities
  • Works with Training Developer and TAC lead to develop and deliver training on new infrastructure systems, management and monitoring tools to operations and Technical Assistance Center teams.
  • Participates in engineering, design, planning, project, and evaluation efforts to recommend and execute architectural changes
  • Monitors vendor notices and releases and coordinates with vendors for updates, security issues, and new capability delivery to incorporate required changes and evaluate and implement best practices in datacenter operations
  • Creates and maintains application documentation including engineering, operations, process, procedure and work instructions for the implementation, operation and maintenance of management and monitoring systems.
  • Identify opportunities to automate management and monitoring of data center infrastructure.
  • Participate in all ITSM, RMF, Project Management, and Agile processes that drive HCS operations
  • Provide regular on-site support for unclassified/classified application systems Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00 AM CST and 5:00 PM CST. (Core Hours 0900-1500 local)
  • Participate in after-hours and weekend on-call rotation with a maximum of a 1 hour recall time.

Requires:

  • HS 12-14, BS 8-10, MS 6-8, PhD 3-5.
  • US Dod Secret Clearance.
  • IAT Level II certification.
  • Candidate must be of a senior level and possess general knowledge pertaining to multiple technical disciplines associated with datacenter operations (Hardware, Networking, Storage, OS, Virtualization, etc.), Linux System Administration.
  • Experience with the configuration of data center virtualization and monitoring solutions, intermediate skill and experience operating VMware vSphere – VMware Data Center Virtualization fundamentals at minimum.
  • Experience configuring monitoring through VMware Aria Operations Manager (vROPS) or other comparable management and monitoring system.
  • Experience operating and configuring VMWare Cloud Director (VCD).
  • Fundamental understanding of ITIL Processes, Project Management Principles, Agile project approach.
  • Experience configuring and hardening systems for operations on DOD/USMC systems.
  • Experience working with vendors to resolve complex outages or system issues including identifying vulnerabilities and risks associated with security considerations.
  • Experience developing Plans of Action & Milestones (POA&M) for DOD security vulnerabilities.
  • Experience and skill in documenting system configurations.
  • Desired: VMWare Certification, AWS or Azure certification.
