Simulation and Test Electrical Engineer(

Job Number:

47000003K)

Description

General Summary:

The Simulation & Test Electrical Engineer will work in our Advanced Systems Integration Test Facility (ASITF) and be responsible for integrating new Avionics & Electrical systems and associated components, which include Avionics data busses, power systems, sensors and analog and digital I/O. Responsibilities also include design and troubleshooting of test simulation hardware and integration wire harness systems for the facility. These designs will include test and simulation interfaces to capture and/or simulate either actual aircraft hardware or models in the loop. This facility supports the design, development integration, certification, and support of aircraft avionics, electrical and electronic systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Main area of focus will be integrating new Avionics & Electrical systems and associated components and to develop and maintain cable/wire harness detail and assembly designs to ensure configuration compliance to design requirements. Assignments will provide an opportunity for the qualified candidate to develop and maintain state of the art aircraft and simulation systems, simulation and aircraft harness design within a controlled lab environment.

2. Work closely with other engineering disciplines to understand and capture aircraft and simulation systems integration, which includes wiring requirements, and ensure compatibility with interfacing systems. Work closely with groups within the organization to ensure integrated systems and wiring installations meet all safety, performance, and regulatory requirements.

3. Develop and maintain electrical wiring diagrams and harness architecture to meet aircraft system requirements (e.g. functionality, electrical loading and circuit protection, electromagnetic compatibility, and routing constraints). Assist in development of systems integration test procedures and automated testing as required.

4. Work independently or with other engineers and technicians to troubleshoot, debug and test aircraft and simulation systems and components. Bench test systems components and design wiring harness to support bench-testing activities.

5. Design electrical equipment assemblies and enclosures for the test and simulation systems. Help develop system development and configuration documents (plans, reports) as required. Knowledge of FAA aircraft electrical wiring and installation practices and aircraft component integration practices. Build BOM's as required, select electrical wiring assembly and installation components such as connectors, backshells, wire, insulation, and hardware.

6. Present at design reviews to peers and management.

Qualifications

Education, Work Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:

1. BS in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other related field and/or equivalent work experience.

2. 8 or more years of applicable industry related work experience minimum. 10 or more years of experience is preferred.

3. Experience with smart wiring design tools such as AUTOCAD, IGE-XAO, or similar wiring design tool. Proficient with Microsoft Visio, which will be used as a wiring design tool in addition to the smart wiring design tools.

4. Familiarity with SAP and PLM systems such as Teamcenter or SmartTeam is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Experience in the creation and maintenance of aircraft systems integration design

drawings, wiring diagrams, parts lists, and electrical harness drawings. Knowledgeable

of wire harness fabrication practices per Aerospace and Mil-Spec Standards.

2. Capable of utilizing source control drawings (SCDs), Interface Control Drawings (ICDs) , Design Requirements Documents (DRDs), Technical Requirements Documents (TRDs), Vendor Installation Manuals and schematics to create the aforementioned items.

3. Detailed understanding of, and the capability for specification of systems integration components, hardware, aircraft electrical harness components selection, harness design requirements, harness level system separation and segregation, and system integration at the wiring design level.

4. Experienced in the use of test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Multi-Meters, IFR 4000/6000, Air Data Test Sets, Data Bus Analyzers (Arinc-429, RS-422/485, CAN Bus, Ethernet etc.), Electronic Loads, Current Probes, Function/Waveform Generators, LCR Meters, Time Domain Reflectometers (TDRs), Phase Angle Voltmeters (PAVs), and Logic Analyzers.

5. Familiar with use of RF test equipment such as Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers, Cable & Antenna Analyzers, RF Power Meters, Gauss Meters, EMI Probes and RF Signal Generators (Used for VOR, ILS, GPS, WiFi, and other aircraft signals).

6. Hands-on wire harness fabrication skills and familiarity with wire fabrication tools preferred.

7. Experience with Hardware in the Loop testing and automated testing preferred.

8. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites (Visio, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and Adobe Acrobat Pro Software.

9. Ability to efficiently learn new skills and manage multiple tasks.

10. Ability to communicate effectively throughout all levels of an organization.

11. Ability to work independently and within a fast-paced team oriented environment.

Physical Requirements:

1. Occasionally incumbents may be exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.

2. Occasionally incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
