Texas Oncology is looking for a full-time Precision Medicine Clinical Data Scientist to join our team! This is a fully remote position that is based out of the corporate office in Dallas, Texas.

What does the Clinical Data Scientist do? 

The Precision Medicine Clinical Data Scientist will be responsible for the translation and documentation of non-structured information into structured data, such as reviewing clinical information in a non-structured, textual/pdf format and transcribing that information into structured data fields. This person will also assist in the transcription of precision medicine tests ordered by the physician, receipt, and placement of the results into the EMR, as necessary. This person will collaborate with data scientists within the Precision Medicine Team and clinicians within Texas Oncology and US Oncology Research for the identification of patients who may be eligible for enrollment in clinical trials. 

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Analyze, interpret, and visualize complex EMR datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
  • Use Python, Pandas, and REST APIs to retrieve, process, and integrate data from various sources.
  • Perform data cleansing and transformation to ensure data integrity and usability.
  • Design and develop reports and dashboards for various business stakeholders, leveraging the best-in-class visualization tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define business questions and hypotheses.
  • Build and refine statistical models to predict, classify, and understand critical business outcomes.
  • Stay updated with the latest data science trends, tools, and techniques to ensure the company remains at the forefront of technology and best practices.
  • Assist in data governance and ensuring data privacy standards are met.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior data scientists and analysts.
  • Communicate complex data findings and insights in a clear and concise manner to non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, statistics, or a related field. A master’s or higher is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with EMR data.
  • Oncology and genomics data experience is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive prior experience in the analysis of cancer genomics data.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for data analysis.
  • Solid experience with REST APIs for data extraction and integration.
  • Strong experience in data cleansing, transformation, and validation techniques.
  • Proficiency in reporting and data visualization tools such as [Tableau, Power BI, or similar].
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Familiarity with other data science tools and libraries is a plus.
