Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Develops and facilitates faculty advisor training, coordinates and directs advising activities of professional staff members (1 part-time employee, 1 full time employee) in the School.
  • Oversees undergraduate nursing and health science program recruiting. Represents the School in recruiting events. Creates, maintains, and distributes resources. 
  • Collaborates with staff, campus community, and healthcare partners regarding recruitment initiatives.
  • Serves as primary contact for campus offices regarding student advising and student service-related issues. Makes recommendations to faculty committees and/or Dean for policy changes and implementation regarding advising, admissions, and student issues. 
  • Participates as an ad hoc member of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences Admission, Progression, and Graduation Committee and Undergraduate Student Affairs Committee. Serves as primary liaison for establishing and maintaining clinical contracts.
  • Keeps current on changes in general education and program requirements and communicate these changes to School of Nursing and Health Sciences faculty and staff.
  • Oversees operation of Degree Maps, AAR, and other IU systems. Collaborates with IU East and Indiana University regarding all electronic recordkeeping systems.
  • Assigns advisees to faculty and maintains records of faculty assignments.
  • Assesses strengths and needs regarding student success programming/processes and make recommendations to the Dean and/or the Admission, Progression, and Graduation committee, as appropriate.
  • Serves on the Admission, Progression, and Graduation committee and Undergraduate Student Affairs committee as an ad hoc member.
  • Attends, develops, and facilitates professional development events related to advising and assessment.
  • Designs and disseminates new/updated advising resources for students, faculty, and professional staff advisors.
  • Maintains records of student progress.
  • Oversees a comprehensive proactive academic advising program for all undergraduate students within the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
  • Develops and facilitates routine and "as needed" student success workshops, programs, and initiatives.
  • Monitors results of success initiatives and provide recommendations to faculty committees and/or the Dean.
  • Coordinates at-risk student programming and/or advising for undergraduate nursing and pre-BSN students.
  • Provides training and support for faculty and professional advisors in the IU Coaching Conversations curriculum.
  • Facilitates pre-BSN to BSN transition programming.
  • Maintains and executes an integrated inclusive, culturally intelligent recruitment and student support strategy.
  • Supervises two full time advisors.
  • Maintains open communication and manage workflow of School of Nursing and Health Sciences Student Services.
  • Assigns appropriate projects, provide individual supervision, and conduct regular meetings for School of Nursing and Health Sciences student service staff.
  • Communicates program and policy changes to all staff to provide timely, efficient, and accurate information to prospective and current students.
  • Provides backup coverage and support in all academic advising functions.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with area healthcare facilities and institutions of higher learning to ensure continued success of all School of Nursing and Health Sciences Programs.
  • Seeks out and maintains community partnerships conducive to student support and effective recruiting.
  • Oversees clinical facility contracts of 50 plus healthcare agencies throughout east central Indiana, west central Ohio, and southern Indiana.
  • Participates in campus-wide committees and initiatives as directed by the Dean and Associate Dean of Undergraduate Nursing Programs as a liaison for the School.
  • Functions as a point of contact for the Office of Registrar and Student Records, the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, University College, and others for the dissemination of information or issues that may arise.
  • Works with faculty, professional staff, students, and external partners to effectively market the School's undergraduate programs and co-curricular events.
  • Represents undergraduate nursing and health science programs at campus, college and community recruiting events.
  • Creates, maintains, and distributes recruiting resources. 
  • Collaborates with External Affairs to maintain up to date web presence.
  • Revises, assesses, and executes admissions process for School of Nursing and Health Sciences applicants.
  • Collaborates with the Admission, Progression, and Graduation committee as appropriate.
  • Provides information regarding the admissions applications to students, prospective students, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinates undergraduate admissions process under the holistic admission model.
  • Prepares admission reports of all applicants and collaborate with Dean or Assistant Dean of Undergraduate programs on sending acceptance/denial letters.
  • Attends staff meetings, serve on committees, and represent the School and institution at local, state, and professional organizations.
  • Collaborates with campus and university departments to facilitate undergraduate student success resources. Disseminate information about available resources to undergraduate nursing students.
  • Collaborates with the IU School of Nursing and Health Sciences and regional campus advisors.
  • Performs other duties incidental to the work herein described and as assigned by the Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

General Responsibilities

  • Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define student services methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority student services projects/initiatives.
  • Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase student services initiatives.
  • Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
  • Manages high level assignments and allocation of student services resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale student services projects with wide audiences in support of academic, wellness, inclusion, and safety initiatives.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
  • Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry student services standards, technologies, policies, and procedures; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs.
  • Works collaboratively with other student services leaders across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
  • Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to student services.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in law, public health, public affairs, counseling, social work, or related field.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 4 years in student services, higher education student affairs, or related field.
  • 1 year of management experience in relevant field.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment.
