Team Overview

The Electric Business Applications team ensures safe, reliable, compliant and event free operations of the Transmission and Distribution Grid.

Within the Business Applications organization, Electric Business Systems team supports:

Position Summary:

The role is responsible for leading complex Transmission and Distribution SCADA programs that support grid automation, execution, and reliability. The role facilitates governance and understanding of business processes, and coordinates with: IT, ADMS, System Automation and Protection, Substation Program/Project management, T&D Control Center Operations, IGP and Cybersecurity/Risk to solve business challenges and implement business solutions. This role will be key for the ADMS project and will eventually have ADMS accountability when released from project status. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining annual unit and resource plans which supports the commissioning new T&D SCADA/FLISR systems and devices. The incumbent develops and manages real time metrics that indicate the overall communication and future operational health of the T&D SCADA/FLISR/DMS systems, prioritizing the repairs of supporting equipment to maximize benefit. The incumbent is also responsible for ongoing SCADA/FLISR/DMS application strategy and associated business case development while always engaging stakeholders/clients..

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

  • Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $151,000.00
  • Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $204,000.00
  • Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $257,000.00
  • Minimum Base Salary (California) $143,000.00
  • Mid Base Salary (California) $194,000.00
  • Maximum Base Salary (California) $244,000.00

The responsibilities of the position include:

  • Manages a department involved in strategic partnership with business system owners to understand business processes, user needs, and system requirements. Consults on the development of technology business cases, either written by own team or by business process owners. Reviews and approves business cases as required for final submission.
  • Responsible for multiple large, complex system applications which effect large, critical portions of the company.
  • Lead teams that define, review and approve business requirements for the assigned business system(s). Performs high level prioritization of department projects.
  • Ensures governance and team understanding of complex business processes and coordination with IT to develop and implement solutions to system/tool needs.
  • Anticipates, identifies, and fully meets the business needs through a broad understanding of current and future business environment.
  • Contributes to development of communication and change management strategy, ensuring that timely and effective messages regarding systems status and enhancements are delivered.
  • Consults with business owners on both process and business system changes resulting from potential technology enhancements and deployments. Ensures managers and supervisors effectively coordinate and complete any testing required for system enhancements and/or new tool deployments.
  • Develops and maintains metrics for team project(s). Regularly presents business system and team performance metrics to department or line of business senior leaders. Addresses concerns and develops solutions.
  • Manages the department operational budget for both Capital and Expense, and consults on technology deployment budgets.
  • May lead steering committee meetings with Business and IT teams that define, review and approve requirements for enhancements. Influences solutions to complex business problems. Governs the business analysis work that affects the corresponding IT organization.
  • Business lead on projects that manage new SCADA/FLISR system releases and system replacement projects.
  • Provides leadership in developing and implementing short and long-term strategies associated with SCADA/FLISR system availability and new installations.
  • Ensures the department meets all legal and regulatory compliance requirements for each area of responsibility.
  • Fosters teamwork and interacts with business partners across all lines of business, to ensure overall business SCADA needs are being met. Proactively brings ideas, solutions, and alternatives to business partners for technical issues and challenges. Solicits feedback from business partners on services.
  • Establishes positive relationships with external departments and agencies.
  • Develops financial, work and staffing plans for each function of the department. Oversees large annual project budgets.
  • Manages staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, and rewards and recognition.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science/Information Systems etc. or equivalent work experience.
  • 10 years of job-related experience in Business, IT, or Engineering fields and/or related education
  • 2 years of relative leadership experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • 7 years hands-on, practical experience with SCADA systems within either business or IT involved directly in the planning, commissioning and operation of SCADA.
  • Strong technical understanding of overall SCADA systems architecture and supporting communication infrastructure.
  • Thorough knowledge of the business requirements process.
  • Leadership and coaching skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical writing and presentations. Ability to effectively communicate and translate feedback, needs and solutions to various levels of management including Senior Leadership.
  • Broad knowledge of the utility business and multiple corresponding line of business-related functional areas such as the electric utility grid systems and equipment.
  • Strong leadership skills applied to the most complex projects across the line of business, using creative problem solving and analytical skills. This individual needs to be strong in collaboration skills between IT and the Electric Line of Business.
  • Broad understanding of the impact(s) of technical changes to the collective business processes across functional units.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement work management and scheduling systems and processes through a broad understanding of relevant business requirements and processes.
  • Ability to create compelling business cases based on complex business environments and inputs. Has financial acumen to manage department budget(s) for both Capital and Expense processes.
  • Thorough understanding of program management concepts, methods and techniques
