PRINCIPAL OPERATIONS ANALYST (Crime & Data Analytics)
DEPARTMENT OF POLICE
Strategic Initiatives Division
Number of Positions: 10
Starting Salary: $75,852.00
Under general supervision, functions as a technical expert or team leader in the design and conduct of a broad range of studies to improve operations, and performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Develops and coordinates accurate and reliable methods to assess department programs, activities, initiatives, and measures the extent to which projected goals and objectives are attained.
- Establishes open lines of communication and working relationships with personnel from various operational and administrative divisions and other City agencies to facilitate the acquisition of meaningful data that can be used to analyze emerging crime patterns/trends, management issues, and assess/validate community concerns.
- Provides senior analysis and managerial accountability review of the crime analysis efforts and deployment responses developed via the various Strategic Decision Support Centers (SDSC) across the department.
- Supplies relevant information and analysis of statistical data regarding emerging crime and disorder patterns/trends.
- Collect data and provide analysis to enhance department initiatives and deployment.
- Provide analysis of data for members of different departments within Chicago Police Department
- Build Dashboards to address Consent Decree data requirements.
Additional duties may be required for this position.
Location: Public Safety Headquarters
Days: Monday – Friday
Hours: 7:00am – 3:00pm to 9:00am – 5:00pm

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree plus three (3) years of work experience in operations analysis, project management, strategic planning, program auditing, or business management consulting; OR
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree plus two (2) years of work experience in operations analysis, project management, strategic planning, program auditing, or business management consulting
NOTE: Candidates must pass a background investigation, drug screen, and other pre-employment procedures as determined by the Chicago Police Department
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a skills assessment as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
- Previous experience working in an environment that focused on crime analysis, crime prevention approaches, law enforcement operations, and/or management accountability practices.
- Previous experience in the extraction of data from large and interrelated data sets
- Previous experience preparing charts and graphs that provide clarity to complex data and analysis, including through the use of visualization software such as Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, SQL Developer, or GIS software.
- Previous experience reviewing the analytical work products of other analysts and researchers
