Job Description Summary

The Preliminary Design Engineer is an exciting opportunity to invent the future of flight developing new propulsion system architectures and technologies. The role is expected to execute activities relative to preliminary cycle design and performance engineering.

The Preliminary Design Engineer will join the Preliminary Design & Hybrid Electric team within the Advanced Technology Operations section.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop architecture feasibility studies and design exploration studies to define system configuration and modules arrangement
  • Execute performance cycle design for sizing of propulsion systems for concept and product applications, using engine performance modelling tools, such as NPSS and other numerical simulation software
  • Define the preliminary sizing of turbomachinery modules and evaluate gas turbine configuration trades interfacing with different disciplines
  • Develop feasibility powerplant integration studies for novel, hybrid electric and next generation military aircraft applications
  • Contribute to preliminary design activities from high level integration studies to engine cycle design and initial aero & mechanical definition of turbomachinery flow path
  • Contribute to the system integration activities of engine systems and module components, working cross-functionally with Controls, Systems, Aero, thermal and Mechanical engineers to perform preliminary design studies
  • Support internal and external customer data requests
  • Comply with preliminary design best practices and processes
  • Ensure proper documentation of all work

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Aeronautical/Mechanical preferred
  • Basic experience with numerical methods for performance analysis and preliminary sizing of gas turbine engines
  • Understanding of whole engine architecture trades impact into final system performance and aircraft capabilities
  • Experience with programming languages
  • Familiarity with Research and Technology development processes
  • Fluency in English
  • Work Visa, according to local regulation, is required
