Entry professional role, contributing in a support capacity; work subject to frequent review by more experienced professionals.

Job Description:

  • Supports the employment process for assigned vacancies; screens applications to ensure they meet the minimum qualifications required for the positions; guides and supports the Search Committee Chair and/or Hiring Manager through the process; conducts criminal background checks, when needed; maintains records of review and selection decisions; and assures that positions are filled in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Counsels candidates regarding job opportunities and employment procedures.
  • Provides training in collaboration with the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs to search committee members on the employment process. 
  • Works closely with the recruitment team to identify prospective candidates, coordinate recruitment events, and develop strategies for hard-to-fill vacancies.
  • Provides outstanding customer service to supervisors, employees, candidates, and prospective candidates; responds to inquiries in a timely manner; and monitors the department email account during the assigned weeks.
  • Provides ideas and feedback on how Human Resources can improve the employee experience.
  • Proactively searches for ways to continuously improve the employment process and aims to maximize the experience for both candidates and search committee members. 
  • Provides benefits counseling to University employees; maintains an open door policy; and ensures the security, integrity and confidentiality of all employee records.
  • Assists with providing benefits orientation to new employees; and ensures employees are provided with a comprehensive overview of benefits options, requirements, and procedures, etc., and an understanding of the environment in which they have chosen to work.
  • Assists with processing benefits forms (e.g., health, retirement, and life) in a timely manner; and with benefits events including Open Season.
  • Assists in providing on-going communication regarding the University’s benefits programs through emails, fairs, workshops, seminars, brochures, and benefits statements; ensures that the benefits information on the website is regularly updated; and posts new benefits information through social media. 
  • Assists the Executive Director in developing guidelines for supervisors and employees; and serves as a trainer in a variety of workshops.
  • On an as-needed basis, serves as a back-up to other HR team members.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisor.
  • Shows a genuine commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace; and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning. 
  • Serves as a mandatory Title IX reporter; and takes annual Title IX training as part of the compliance effort.
  • Prioritizes safety in the workplace as a collective responsibility for the well-being of employees and fosters a culture of safety that is integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols, as well as promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum of two years of experience with Human Resources, administrative operations, or a related field (college student worker and/or internship experience will be considered).
  • Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.
  • SHRM or HRCI certification.

  • Strong ability to understand and support others with compassion and sensitivity.
  • Strong writing, signing, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong planning and organization skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

Additional Job Details:

  • If the successful candidate has over three years of required experience and exceeds the qualifications, they may be hired as “Human Resources Coordinator.”

  • The successful candidate will undergo a background check that must be cleared prior to working at Gallaudet University.
