About The Position: 

The duties of this full-time, tenure-track position will include teaching core and specialized courses in a CACREP-accredited graduate Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. Service to the department and university as well as maintaining an active research agenda are other responsibilities. The Counselor Education Program works to educate persons to become professional counselors and educators through a combination of theoretical and applied approaches. The School of Education, Health, and Human Services prepares students for successful entry into their profession. We focus on an ethical approach to human well-being and encourage critical thinking and practical application. The successful candidate may be asked to teach courses in a distance learning format. 

Required Qualifications: 

  • ABD or holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education or a related field if combined with a minimum of one full academic year teaching as a faculty member in a counselor education program prior to July 1, 2013. ABD will be considered for appointment at a lesser (qualified) rank and salary, upon proof that the applicant’s defense of their dissertation will be scheduled within the first year of the appointment. A successful ABD applicant will receive promotion to the rank of Assistant Professor and a salary increment at the start of the semester following verification of the terminal degree completion. An ABD hire will be limited to a one-year appointment, subject to renewal for one year only (2 years maximum).
  • Evidence of potential to establish and implement a scholarly research agenda
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff and administrators
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues of diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctorate from a CACREP-accredited program
  • Teaching and clinical experience working with diverse cultural groups
  • Teaching experience in areas that reflect knowledge of the 8 CACREP core competency areas
  • Professional identity and commitment to counselor education (i.e., participation in ACA and/or its divisions)
  • New York State license eligible
  • At least three years of counseling experience within the past ten years
  • Evidence of collaboration with counseling practitioners within the community and professional organizations
  • Clinical supervision experience
  • Experience in clinical counseling practice

Salary $55,000 minimum, plus excellent benefits
