Business Unit Overview:

Blackstone Alternative Asset Management (BAAM®) manages approximately $80 billion across a diversified set of businesses, including a customized portfolio solutions business, a special situations platform, a business that purchases GP stakes in alternative asset managers, an open-ended mutual fund platform, and an emerging manager seeding business. Job Description: 

The Associate will support the Global Macro team in its mission to deliver investments with high absolute returns in an uncorrelated and liquid manner. Global Macro investments are executed through allocations to third-party hedge funds and opportunistic direct investments. Specific job responsibilities include:

  • Manage relationships with hedge fund partners, including ad hoc communication and travel to meet with managers in person.
  • Conduct the sourcing, evaluation, and investing in global macro focused hedge fund strategies across fund life cycles. This involves meeting with the hedge fund manager and their team and conducing both qualitative and quantitative analysis of the relevant strategy.
  • Run monthly manager calls and summarize performance and positions.
  • Evaluate hedge fund manager performance vs expectations for a given environment and financial market moves. Conduct manager peer group analysis.
  • Evaluate opportunistic public market investments, co-investments, and portfolio hedges.
  • Write IC memos and client reports for new managers and investments.
  • Prepare talking points for senior members of the Global Macro team for IC and client meetings.
  • Manage the day-to-day business of the Global Macro team, including responding to client requests, reporting on the group's activities, and processing capital allocation decisions.

Qualifications: 

Blackstone seeks candidates who are highly motivated and creative individuals who have a strong academic record and have the ability to work independently and as a member of a team. We are looking for individuals who can develop creative and innovative solutions for our business and with the goal of assuming increased leadership responsibilities over time. In addition to strong commercial understanding, excellent communication skills, effective presentation abilities and strong conceptual and analytical thinking abilities, the successful candidate should have:

  • 2+ years of professional experience.
  • An interest or experience in publicly-traded macro markets, including interest rates, foreign exchange, commodities, and derivatives.
  • Quantitative skills, including conducting analyses, organizing and cleansing data sets, and developing insights.
  • An ability to organize and synthesize qualitative information, including presenting ideas clearly in writing, numerically, and verbally.
  • Strong relationship management skills, including a willingness to listen, solve problems, and find solutions among competing interests.
  • A growth mindset. Prioritizes learning, creativity, and collaboration. Exhibits sound judgment in solving problems.

Expected annual base salary range:

$110,000 - $150,000

Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's experience, skills, qualifications and job location. For roles located outside of the US, please disregard the posted salary bands as these roles will follow a separate compensation process based on local market comparables.

Additional compensation: Base salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits offered in connection with the advertised role.
