Hybrid workforce:

Job Summary: 

The Senior Technical Writer develops and edits content for user guides, installation guides, release notes, and training resources. The Technical Writer delivers accurate documentation in a format that adheres to Technical Communication standards and the Experity Content Style Guide. The Technical Writer Senior manages documentation schedules and aligns them with product development milestones and effectively manages Content Management Systems that support Technical Communication. The ideal candidate is creative, organized, and has a passion for taking complex concepts and translating them into professional, user-centered documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Acquire subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, product managers, and other subject-matter experts
  • Research and translate technical information for technical and non-technical users
  • Conduct audience analysis to identify the needs of users
  • Collaborate with QA, Support teams, and other stakeholders within the company
  • Format, draft, and edit moderately complex technical manuals, project and/or other technical documentation including how-to guides, executive summaries, release notes, and instruction manuals
  • Create schedules for producing documentation in alignment with development milestones and schedules and ensure documentation is provided within these timelines
  • Manage, maintain, and administrate content management systems (Knowledge Base) and vendor relationships
  • Actively participate with the product development by providing oversight and input for all phases of the documentation development life cycle
  • Provide peer editing to ensure content standards are applied
  • Coordinate work of other technical writers, including training and editing as needed
  • Identify, track, and fix documentation defects
  • Define Experity content standards and ensure standards are applied consistently across the department
  • Assist with developing clear, consistent messages within the product
  • Apply technical writing concepts and Experity content standards to all technical communication products
  • Coordinate and proofread documentation for department personnel or internal corporate publications
  • Collaborate with Experity stakeholders to define documentation formats
  • Use tools such as Google Analytics and knowledge base reporting to gauge the quality of the documentation, and then create and execute plans for the continued improvement of the knowledge base
  • Identify and support department reporting and continuous improvement goals. Maintain department dashboards such as KPI and POGs (priority one goals)
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, computer science, or other related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have at least five years of technical writing experience
  • Experience performing technical writing for Software Products
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; adaptable in dynamic situations
  • Experience working on a team and independently, serving multiple parties while working under tight deadlines
  • Familiarity with Knowledge Management Systems, Adobe InDesign, Adobe FrameMaker, RoboHelp (or similar tools of the trade)
  • Ability to create and maintain tables, images, and other illustrations to help communicate technical information
  • Experience in Adobe Photoshop or other image editors
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand technical specifications, system requirements, and other application design information
  • Ability to effectively Collaborate with the product development team and leaders throughout the organization
  • Understanding of software development life cycle
  • Familiar with how the Technical Documentation practice works in an Agile environment
  • Experience in information reuse, document design, and information architecture

Preferred: 

  • Awareness of web technologies, standards, and usability
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry
  • Experience working in product development or performing technical writing for software products

Budgeted salary range

$66,900 to $85,000
