ASSISTANT DEAN - CAREER PROGRAMS & CONTINUING EDUCATION

Reporting to the Dean of Careers and Continuing Education, the Assistant Dean Career Programs & Continuing Education (CPCE) is a Part-Time position, responsible for program administration and associated administrative duties that support the success of the Olive-Harvey College CPCE department. The Assistant Dean represents the College and serves the needs of the community and local businesses by assisting with the delivery of programs, student services, workforce solutions and equipment. The Assistant Dean fosters a climate dedicated to program excellence and conducive to the tenets of a diverse learning community and workforce, developing programs and facilitating activities that promote both student and organizational success as well as lifelong learning. The Assistant Dean works with key stakeholders on outreach and relationship management strategies to effectively engage with business and industry leaders and secure their participation in developing career and technical education (CTE) programs that prepare students for employment and provide career awareness for students pursuing transfer opportunities. The Assistant Dean also works collaboratively with senior staff in implementing a comprehensive CPCE program offering professional and personal development (PPD) non-credit as wells as credit courses that are responsive to current and emerging community and workforce needs and interests, and that align with the college’s mission and goals. Performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

  • Participates in the support, planning and management of new and continuing CPCE programs and course offerings. Provides assistance and expertise with lead generation, solutions selling and proposal development.
  • Works collaboratively with the Dean and Associate Dean to secure the participation of industry partners and business organizations in providing internships, work-based learning experiences, and employment opportunities for students enrolled in CPCE programs.
  • Manages the day-to-day operation of the CPCE program. Supervises program staff and oversees all program aspects including developing and scheduling courses, budgeting, registration, selection and hiring of instructors, and assessment of courses and learning outcomes, and program marketing.
  • Supports the Associate Dean in developing strategies to create and maintain work based learning opportunities and apprenticeships for students enrolled in the college’s various certificate and degree programs.
  • Maintains day-to-day relationships with industry and business partners, working collaboratively to assess CPCE programs, identify emerging skills and hiring trends, and to procure new internship opportunities.
  • Oversees the implementation of marketing and communications strategies with key stakeholders to promote programs, and use social media to attract and engage students.
  • Accountable for assigned projects including department and student survey administration; data analysis and report preparation; and event management.
  • Within guidelines set by Board/Union Collective Bargaining Agreements, evaluates full-time and part-time faculty to ensure continuity of quality classroom instruction in both the credit and continuing education environment.
  • Assists in resolving problems, including, but not limited to, student or and follows appropriate procedures for their resolution.
  • Participates in identifying external funding resources and in developing proposals to obtain grants and funding for projects and program initiatives.
  • Represents the college to community organizations and agencies and participates on district-wide committees.
  • Serves as weekend and/or evening administrator for the department.
  • NOTE: Position works a flexible work schedule and must be available to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends as required. Some travel in and out of district may be required. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field
  • Three years of work experience in a management role or as a college administrator, preferably in the areas of workforce development, proposal/contract writing, sales/business development.
  • Working within a higher education institution with experience in program planning and department supervision strongly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational and project management skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of planning, program development, evaluation, and budgeting, preferably in a community college setting
  • Experience working in a unionized, higher education setting preferred
  • Ability to effectively work in a diverse business, industry, and educational environment
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule including afternoons and evenings and weekends
  • Strong understanding and familiarity with CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
