Breakthrough Fellowship Program Cohort 4 – Internship

ROLE SUMMARY 

One of Pfizer’s Bold Moves is to create an amazing workplace for all, and we are committed to increasing diversity by fostering a more inclusive workplace. To build this, in 2021 Pfizer launched the Breakthrough Fellowship Program – a nine-year commitment designed to enhance our pipeline of diverse leaders. The Breakthrough Fellowship Program, first-of-its-kind, works to advance students with demonstrated commitment and ability to advance diversity, equity and inclusion for Black/African American, Latino/Hispanic and Native Americans at Pfizer, in particular growing the pipeline of Black/African American, Latino/Hispanic and Native Americans at Pfizer. The program has a goal of developing 100 fellows by 2025. 

Successful Fellows will participate in all five components of the program: 

1. An initial 10-week summer internship for rising undergraduate college seniors 

2. 2 years of full-time employment after Undergraduate graduation 

3. After 2 years, a fully paid scholarship to complete a full-time, 2-year MBA, MPH or MS Statistics program 

4. Summer internship between the first and second years of the MBA / MPH or MS Statistics program 

5. Return to Pfizer for employment post program graduation 

Applicants are for this Breakthrough Fellowship Program 10-week internship and intend to pursue their Master of Business Administration degree (MBA), Master of Public Health (MPH) degree or MS Statistics consistent with the time requirements of the program. 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES 

We have 20 openings this year to join the Breakthrough Fellowship Program (BFP) and start in the initial component, 10-week summer internship. Roles within the BFP are across Pfizer’s Business Innovation Office, Finance, Global Business Services, Pfizer Global Supply, Commercial, and Pfizer Research & Development business units. The responsibilities of this internship role will vary depending on role and business unit. Apply to this requisition if you are interested in position in one or more of these business units. Below are examples of the types of responsibilities across role areas in the program: 

Business Innovation (BI) integrates Commercial Strategy & Innovation, Pfizer CentreOne / Pfizer Ignite, Portfolio & Decision Analysis, Strategy & Consulting, and Worldwide Business Development. This synergy enables BI to create sustainable, industry-leading growth for Pfizer, and put more breakthrough medicines and vaccines in the hands of patients. 

BI role responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): 

  • Provide forecasting guidance for commercial business pipeline investment decisions. 
  • Research target partners of interest, report out findings and manage follow-up actions. 
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholder groups to identify strategic issues and conduct competitive activities to facilitate discussion and implement qualitative and/or quantitative analyses to inform decision-making regarding tough investments and trade-offs for programs within the clinical portfolio. 
  • Analyze therapeutic area strategies developing solutions to reach more patients with our medicines and vaccines. 
  • Assess market and competitive signals impacting business performance or strategic direction. 

Pfizer's Finance organization covers a wide range of fields and interacts with every part of the organization, from global tax to transfer pricing and tax planning, managing financial statements, creating accounting policies, or providing accounting support to various divisions, as well as working with commercial leaders to forecast product sales and overall business projections. Finance role responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):

  • Deliver financial support and analysis to commercial teams, providing timely, accurate and insightful analyses to support Biopharma business. 
  • Lead key accounting activities at period close, including recording expense accruals, coupon rebates, and balance sheet reconciliations. 
  • Track brands spend as well as identify and communicate key performance drivers to Finance management. 
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure integrity of Pfizer’s financial reporting across the organization. 
  • Provide real-time accounting support and guidance to global stakeholders fostering consistency in the application of accounting policies and principles.
  • Support the Project Management Office for the Drive for Cash program, preparing, automating, and reporting analytics for the company’s working capital and Drive for Cash initiatives. 

Global Business Services (GBS) transforms fragmented, complex, and intricate operational services into centralized, simplified, and standardized solutions, including colleague and financial services, sourcing and enterprise services and transformation and project management. GBS role responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): 

  • Operational Support in Colleague Solutions Portfolio 
  • Manage ongoing projects across Workday, Service Now, and recruiting related platforms. 
  • Monitor, intake, and solve process design inquiries. 
  • Drive continuous improvement and measure KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and SLAs (Service Level Agreements) in supplier performance and delivery. 
  • Partner with PfizerWorks Customer Facing Account Directors or successful customer experience and service development. 
  • Ensure compliance with Pfizer accounting policies and US GAAP. 
  • Prepare complex financial and accounting analyses. Communicate observations, analysis, and recommendations to GBS colleagues, front-line managers and senior leadership effectively. 

Pfizer Global Supply (PGS) has developed a sophisticated, robust, and agile manufacturing infrastructure by investing in research and development with the sole purpose of getting crucial medicines to patients in need. PGS role responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): 

  • Support the Network Program Management team, part of the Sterile Injectable & Biotech Operating Unit (SBO) which drives key strategic initiatives and program management across a global network of 20 manufacturing sites.
  • Drive the Operating Unit (OpU) Strategy, project execution and supports multiple cross-site initiatives to improve performance. 
  • Develop stakeholder partnerships to proactively identify potential or actual delays to project plans and proposes prevention and mitigation plans. 
  • Optimize quality processes through current process mapping, waste & improvement identification, standardization, and simplification. 
  • Develop performance metrics and standard presentations for vendor quality and P/L release. 
  • Mapp future state for Generative AI projects. 
  • Identify improvement areas for clinical recall/stock recovery.
  • Assist with PSOQ innovation projects. 
  • Collaborate with Technical Design Lead for in-scope projects.
  • Improve MDCP test methods, transfers test methods, conducts engineering studies, manages risk, and manages product development timelines. 

The Pfizer Commercial Business is at the forefront of delivering innovative medicines and vaccines. It plays a vital role in bridging the gap between Pfizer and the medical community ensuring that our scientific and clinical information reaches the hands of physicians, healthcare professionals, providers, and most importantly, patients. The Pfizer Commercial business role responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): 

  • Combine organizational, project management, financial excellence and understanding of strategic priorities, with the goal of seamless execution of the plans focusing on Global and Regional initiatives (e.g., Digital, Operating Plan, communications, etc.) 
  • Gain marketing experience in a key area of the business, while collaborating with cross-functional teams such as customer-facing roles, as well as advertising/promotional agencies, consultants, and in some cases external business partners. 
  • Work on a prioritized set of assignments across healthcare professionals and payer marketing projects to support the execution of commercial strategies and tactics for global product launch. 

Pfizer Research & Development (PRD) teams deliver medical care by delivering breakthrough therapies and vaccines faster with uncompromised quality. Pfizer Research & Development is powered by the most talented scientists and professionals in the industry setting the stage for unprecedent success. PRD roles responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): 

  • Support and coordinate quantitative benefit-risk (qBR) assessments for decision-making across Global Business Units. 
  • Prepare data for analytics by identifying, extracting, and collating relevant research documents and publications, conducting literature searches and reviews as required. 
  • Provide project management support for qBR assessments, decision analyses, and literature review and risk communication. 
  • Leverage mathematics and statistics to bring medicines to patients from inception through approval and post-marketing follow-up. 
  • Use biostatistics for trial design and analysis. 
  • Collaborate with other functional lines within Pfizer for successful execution of commercial strategies and tactics for global product launch. 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Be an undergraduate student enrolled in a full-time university program (an accredited college / university degree program at the time of award) and graduate Winter 2024 or Spring 2025 
  • Min GPA 3.0 
  • Committed interest & intent to pursue an MBA, MPH or MS Statistics graduate degree.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Studying applicable degree (business, supply chain, engineering, business analytics, mathematics, statistics, finance, accounting, marketing, management, data science)

  • Strong written and verbal skills enabling effective communication with all levels of management.

The salary for this position ranges from $16.21 to $27.01 per hour. In addition, this position offers eligibility for overtime, weekends, holiday and other pay premiums depending on the work schedule and the Company’s policies.
