Job Description Summary
Under the supervision of the Director, Faculty Development and Quality Assurance , the Part-Time, Teaching and Learning Designer, will assist in the education of teaching and learning, curriculum design and technology execution. The Learning Designer works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and curriculum developers to promote practices that create effective teaching and learning excellence engaging learners by utilizing appropriate learning theories, strategies and technologies. This position is responsible for developing curricula to educate faculty and staff with the emphasis of the colleges’ Adjunct faculty and staff. In addition, the Part-Time Teaching and Learning Designer will support the Quality Matters initiatives college-wide with the development of curriculum design that integrates best practices for faculty development teaching excellence, creating inclusive climates for learning, deploying technology tools, digital citizenship for learning and fusing our cultures of excellence within our daily work.
Viable candidates must be available at least 25 hours during the work week with flexibility. Schedule will be set and agreed before accepting position.
Minimum Qualifications
- Relevant Bachelor’s degree from a Four-year college Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a United States Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACS.
- At least three years of higher education supporting online and blended courses
- Experience with developing curricula to support faculty development
- Experience with teaching learning theory
- Teaching experience
- Experience using learning management systems and other forms of educational technology
- Experience taking at least an online and face-to-face course
- Ability to design, deliver, content training and technology-enhanced workshops and courses
- Experience offering workshops or support to faculty and staff
- Experience working in professions that require high levels of engagement (customer service, retail, etc.)
- Evening Hours 3 days a week.
Preferred Qualifications• Five years or more experience supporting online and blended courses.
- Completed the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric Training.
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
Essential DutiesDepartmental Administration
- Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information
- Maintain communication and partnership with offices such as Information Technology Services and Accessibility Services to support learning technology requests and escalate support tickets if needed
- Request or generate reports as needed for learning management system accessibility, institutional assessment and data-driven decision making
Support Teaching and Learning Excellence
- Promote the culture of Quality Matters and Universal Design for Learning guidelines when educating faculty and staff on the effective use of learning technologies and tools
- Become Quality Matters Certified- AppQMR, and PRC
- Share diverse perspectives on learning theories and innovation to support inclusive teaching and learning strategies within the college and faculty learning communities
Planning and Implementation
- Participate in the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence Projects, developing best practices for Growth Mindset, shifting our work to a fluid environment of excellence
- Develop catalogs, trainings and tutorials to captures our knowledge assets
- Participate in Transformative Learning media campaigns that are intended to share best practices and research
Community Relations
- Engage in professional communities with the potential to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities in the position
- Maintain contact with specialized vocations where applicable
- Be alert to public relations opportunities and use these to promote the College and the department
- Serve on College teams as required
- Provide administration with information for institutional publications
