Position Purpose: 

Under the direction of the Asset Manager or designee supports a department or area to maintain all equipment and facilities as assigned in a safe and efficient working condition for a wastewater reclamation plant. The incumbent will provide (supervision and/or) technical direction to trades staff and supervisors to accomplish maintenance and repair of responsible area at the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District Wastewater Reclamation Facilities 

This position will be accountable for ensuring the timeliest and cost-effective maintenance of electrical power, instrumentation and mechanical systems and equipment in the safest manner possible, or as mandated to ensure regulatory compliance and achievable metrics. 

The Maintenance Planner’s responsibility is to improve maintenance work force productivity and work quality by anticipating and eliminating potential delays through planning and coordination of manpower, parts and material and equipment access, while maintaining compliance with all regulatory permits.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the Veolia Safety Program is effective.
  • Assist with development, administering and management of departmental budgets.
  • Interacts with other planners, front line supervisors, managers, operators, and shift supervisors to guarantee the efficient, safe and permit compliant operation of the system.
  • Interacts with client as necessary for reporting on, maintaining or operating the system in an efficient, safe and permit compliant manner.
  • Support client capital projects.
  • Required to be administratively proficient and detailed oriented to manage key performance indicators along with project management.
  • Participates in development and coordination of planned assignments for trades and or work efforts of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual work schedule for designated areas focusing on department goals.
  • The individual will also plan and evaluate the quality and quantity of work needed to accomplish work, group goals within set limits of time, cost and permits, and coordinate assignments with other departments or agencies.
  • Maintain effectiveness in changing environment, able to explain changes at the company to others creating support and buy in for change.
  • Is comfortable dealing with the competing priorities and missions within the company.
  • Prepare clear and concise records, reports, and other written materials; and read and understand blueprints, drawing, specification, and sketches pertaining to the work.
  • Evaluation and documentation review to ensure concise and accurate equipment data descriptions, work procedures and limited development of SMP’s.
  • Assists initial identification of plant improvements, including development of criteria for job scope and engineering review for both stand alone projects and MCR&R process.
  • Purchasing knowledge to find obsolete parts, along with creating new vendors and establishing reliable contacts for industry, ensuring support of critical equipment and process.
  • Warehouse identification of spare parts; stocking notifications matching equipment/parts descriptions in system; level, criticality, and pricing.
  • Service Contract management.

Work Environment:

  • Incumbent will be exposed to varied temperature extremes, noise, fumes, odors, confined spaces, elevated heights, depths (up to 300 ft. under ground), dust, sitting for prolonged times in front of computer.
  • Spends 50% of time in operations environment and 50% of time in office environment.
  • May need to work outside in inclement weather conditions and drive company vehicle to perform duties.
  • Occasional travel for training or meetings.
  • This function is largely in an industrial environment.
  • Will require frequent visits to maintenance and repair locations.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • Requires a learned working knowledge in Chemical, Process or Mechanical Engineering or related field work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Maintenance, or Electrical Engineering required.
  • 5+ years in a maintenance, engineering, or process environment.
  • 3+ years formal maintenance planning experience, preferred experience in heavy manufacturing, chemical, refining or utilities industry.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Maintenance Planning, with preferred experience in heavy manufacturing, chemical, or utilities industry.
  • Knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of a water and wastewater reclamation facility preferred.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years progressive supervisory experience in an industrial environment preferred.
  • Experience in Process / Operations Management, QA/QC procedures, Safety, Environmental and Facilities Management preferred
  • Knowledge of purchasing, procurement, ordering of equipment also a plus.
  • Knowledge and Experience in Reliability Centered Maintenance preferred
  • Experience supervising in a union environment preferred
  • Experience in developing and managing a budget > $500,000 preferred.
  • Leadership skills, leading and facilitating work efforts and projects preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to operate in a team environment and lead projects as necessary.
  • Ability to shift priorities frequently and to effectively perform under pressure.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and other office equipment as needed.
  • Ability to function in both a plant and office environment.
  • Ability to write logical work packages.
  • Ability to organize and communicate work assignments.
  • Strong mathematics and analytical abilities including statistical analysis.
  • Computer skills to include Google Package Suites, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Access, Oracle WAM, or other computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and other software applications.
  • Strong Technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems associated with industrial processes. 
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions needed in an industrial environment for the performance of mechanical, electrical and control system maintenance work.
  • Thorough knowledge of the repair and maintenance of turbines, gasoline and diesel engines, mechanical equipment and/or electrical equipment and transmission systems.
  • Requires superior interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with client, public, purchasing, operations, employees, etc.
  • Excellent management and organizational skills are also required.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • Valid State of Wisconsin Drivers License.
  • Maintenance Planning Certification preferred.
  • Operating Engineers License preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Bending, Standing, lifting, and carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, walking, climbing and balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling and smelling.
