The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) at the University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) invites applications for three tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in Computer Science and Systems (CSS). These full-time (100% FTE) positions have a nine-month service period with an expected start date of September 16, 2024. The initial appointment is for a three-year period, renewable upon successful completion of the second-year review.
All faculty at the UW engage in scholarship, teaching, and service. Successful candidates will pursue a vigorous research agenda and teach classes at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Successful candidates should expect to teach in a variety of modalities, including online, hybrid, and/or in-person, in the context of an urban-serving university campus. Successful candidates will also participate in service to the university and profession, and will be expected to contribute substantially toward creating a diverse and inclusive community of faculty, staff, and students. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to: teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: programming, software engineering, computer architecture, operating systems, or computer ethics; research experience in the areas of : computer systems, human-computer interaction, robotics, cryptography, bioninformatics, maching learning, and/or new areas in CS research.

The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) was created in 2001 through a public/private partnership to address the critical demand for computing and engineering professionals in the South Puget Sound. Today, SET has 33 tenured and tenure- track faculty, 20 teaching faculty, 1 research faculty, and approximately 1,000 students. SET faculty have received research funding from federal/government grants/contracts, and industry partners. The CSS program offers bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees with 23 PhD students, 95 MS students, and 400 undergraduate majors. In addition to CSS, SET offers undergraduate degree programs in Information Technology, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, and graduate degree programs in Cybersecurity and Leadership, and Electrical and Computer Engineering. Compensation:
The base salary range is $12,556 to $13,333 per month ($113,000 to $120,000 per 9-month academic year), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation may include a one-time relocation allowance and startup package. An earned Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science or related field is required by the time of appointment. In exceptional circumstances, candidates in the final stages of the Ph.D. (pending conferral) may be selected and appointed on an acting basis.
