DESCRIPTION

The AWS Firmware team drives system innovation in the servers used by all of Amazon Web Services, including EC2, S3, EBS, CloudFront, etc. Our engineers solve the hardest problems that fuse software, hardware, and the cloud. We take big bets on new concepts, enabling AWS services to continue to revolutionize the industry.

We are looking for a seasoned, hand-on Software Development Manager to build and own the server firmware development and deployment space, including but not limited to BIOS, BMC, FPGA, and related firmware. As a manager in this team, you will lead a team of world-class software developers who thrive on creating innovative, scalable solutions for real-world data center infrastructure problems. You will lead a team to build, validate, and support firmware in diverse technology domains from embedded software to large-scale distributed software systems, using proprietary and open source technologies. You will drive new feature development efforts from concept to launch and beyond. You will own your team’s strategic vision and roadmap in defining and delivering new products and services. This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you’ll work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas.

Key job responsibilities

You will be leading a team of talented engineers to develop new and support existing servers in AWS data centers. The day-to-day job includes, hiring, mentoring and coaching employees to grow the team and their career. You will be accountable for delivering results to earn trust and serve our customers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 4+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 4+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
