Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement category plans for execution of broader strategies outlined by senior management for assigned categories.
  • Using appropriate e-tools (Ariba etc.) create launch and manage the RFP process per category strategy.
  • Perform spend analysis based on current vendor information and identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Track and report savings for each executed strategy.
  • Ability to communicate purchasing policies and guidelines that effectively balance administrative burden, cost savings, and risk/liability.
  • Work cross-functionally within a global matrix organizational structure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Responsible for design, implementation and ongoing improvement of strategic sourcing for Software category
  • Address all areas of commodity management including commodity business plans, global market and pricing analysis and procurement support.
  • Responsible for negotiating and reaching agreement with suppliers on complex business terms and conditions. In particular, this will include negotiation, implementation, and ongoing management of supply agreements.
  • Form teams from various internal departments to develop favorable T & C’s to mitigate risk issues for Illumina.
  • Acts as internal team leader and primary contact for negotiation with targeted key suppliers.

Requirements:

  • Contribute to development of the company’s strategic commodity objectives and goals.
  • Advise management on alternate global supply sources, raw material costs, commodity pricing trends and supply/demand situations that could impact the business.
  • Acquire and maintain a clear understanding of the technologies utilized in Illumina’s products, parts and services.
  • Demonstrated experience in cost reduction and contract negotiations for complex contracts for indirect categories.
  • Should have a good understanding of ERP systems (SAP ideal) to understand how they work and can be used to effectively execute and monitor the business spend.
  • Ability to deal effectively with pressure, multiple tasks, deadlines, and rapidly changing priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and influence others at all levels within the organization.
  • Excellent business, financial and negotiating skills are required along with knowledge of quality systems, lean manufacturing processes and project management knowledge.
  • Forms teams with other departments (Procurement, Legal, Quality, Regulatory, and Development) to effectively address business and risk mitigation issues for inclusion into Illumina standard contract template. 
  • Negotiate business T & C’s relating to: forecast process, inventory strategies, lead times, price reduction and other strategic issues with key suppliers.
  • Manage list of critical suppliers for contract implementation and timelines for completion.
  • Reports contract status to teams and management.
  • Monitors the critical contract review, extension and termination terms and dates.
  • Help to develop a simplified contract template for managing basic price and delivery agreements with Legal. 
  • Manage and implement periodic supply agreement changes and updates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience/Education:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience in Software strategic sourcing and contract negotiations including but not limited to SAP, Microsoft, and Salesforce.


The estimated base salary range for the Staff Strategic Sourcing Specialist - IT role based in the United States of America is: $107,400 - $161,000. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
