SUMMARY

The Information and Referral Specialist is to provide program and administrative support to the Fort Polk Army Community Service Center’s Information and Referral program. The program supports soldiers through office counseling, re-entry orientation, family member crisis counseling, parenting and marriage support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following:

  • The Information and Referral Specialist should be able to identify the level of complexity of cases;
  • Document the intake procedures and process them into the Client Tracking System;
  • Receive client(s) inquiries concerning community services;
  • Provide information and referral to client(s) within the Army Community Service Center, Family Readiness Center, and to external agencies;
  • The Information and Referral Specialist should be able to communicate with commanders and client(s);
  • Monitor the reception area to meet and greet visitors and answer telephones;
  • Distribute a government provided Information Handbook

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

No supervisory or management authority.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma
  • At least three years’ experience in a work setting greeting clients; evaluating needs and providing information and referral services
  • Must be pursuing or be willing to pursue a recognized certification as an Information and Referral Specialist with the Association of Information and Referral Specialists (AIRS)
  • Must be able and willing to speak and talk in front of large audiences of people

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of office principles and procedures;
  • Ability to communicate effectively;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently;
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office;
  • Ability to sort, file, and maintain records;
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments;
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail when completing multiple assignments;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word;
  • Individual(s) selected will be subject to a Department of Defense background investigation. Candidate must be able to successfully pass a Minimum Background Investigation prior to starting work on site.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position works in an office setting; some walking, standing, bending and carrying of small office items is required. Ability to perform all contractual duties, which may include transporting, lifting and setting up displays.
