What is the opportunity?

On the RBC Digital Design team, we encourage designers at all stages to continuously learn and grow. We put strategy, research, design principles, and technical innovation at the center of everything we do. As an intern student on our team, you will be immersed in an environment that fosters creativity and a learning mindset.

Our interaction designers help to communicate our design intent in a way that delights yet informs our users to create intuitive interfaces. As a member of our team, you’ll work within an agile environment and iterative process, collaborating with interdisciplinary team members and stakeholders to analyze, design and convey your design vision. A natural problem solver, communicator, and facilitator, you’ll be involved in every step of the process from idea generation to implementation.

What will you do?

  • Employ user-centered design principles and techniques to optimize the client experience for new and existing RBC products and features
  • Design artifacts of high complexity to communicate task flows, touchpoints, behaviors, and the exchange of information
  • Create complex low-fidelity sketches, wireframes, and prototypes to explore, communicate, and validate ideas.
  • Create complex prototypes to provide delivery specifications for development
  • Participate in usability testing and research activities
  • Collaborate with your core design team, project managers, developers, and business stakeholders

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Enrollment in a post-secondary institution (university or college) in a degree program related to design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), or a related field or equivalent practical experience
  • Exposure to designing usable interfaces across multiple channels and platforms
  • Exposure to applied research settings including experience integrating user research into product designs and design practices
  • Ability to articulate design strategy, rational and logic; describing benefits and highlighting risks associated with design decision
  • Portfolio that includes case studies where you walk through the problem you were solving and the process you used to come to a solution
